Let me start by saying that I am mainly a lurker and really love everything the forum has to offer. I am also a happy owner of a 2001 456M GT manual.

I was stunned when I came across this listing at the Ferrari dealership in Seattle for $175,000. Value increases are always bittersweet for me. As they increase, there is a part of me that gets more concerned with driving it despite my basis in the car remaining unchanged. Does anyone else feel this way?

Not for me, as the value increases It helps justify the cost of ownership and also makes me happy I made a good decision.

And if the value goes down they become rarer as they get trashed by unsimpathic owners and there is a lot more cheap spare parts win win.

The rarity of the cars and being able to use them like taking 4 out to lunch at country pub, makes the cars an event not just transport.

Having said that these cars are an event ..just starting mine with its Tubi exhaust and they way they make you feel driving them is magic.

Thanks for the feedback fellas. The car is truly unique in my opinion for the Ferrari world.

These cars should be used and enjoyed for their original purpose. I noticed that all 7 456MGTAs on autotrader.com today had less than 30,000 miles and 4 of them had under 15,000 ,or less than 1000 miles per year. That's nuts. Of course, with over 63,000 miles on the odometer, my fully-sorted, cosmetically fine example is borderline worthless, so I might as well wring the hell out of it. :D

I think that price is a bit ambitious. I don't think there have been reported sales in that range (yet).

That said, I understand your point. I have a 3 pedal 575 and love to drive it.

Two "spike values" which doesnt mean a whole lot, but low milage at this point in time is the Unicorn.
The rise of the Ferrari 456 and the butterfly effect

Silverstone Auctions claimed a world record result for a Ferrari 456 at auction when a delivery mileage example sold for £118,125 including premium. The interesting thing about the car was that it was well known and been for sale for a number of years in the showroom of a London dealer for less than £100,000 (although it had started out at £115,000). A few days later a 4,000 mile car that had been available at Romans International for £79,950 for an extended period was also reported to have found a buyer.

I have a 2002 456M GTA with 17K miles 2 owner all the books, tools, seat covers wheel cover, car cover and the CORRECT set of luggage in Pozzi blue with cream/ blu interior. I don't dare put miles on it, only to show it and to keep it from suffering from unuse. Better than putting the $ in the market . Any idea on it's market value?

I think you are spot on. How much do you drive your 456? What do you think is to much? Have you ever seen a POZZI BLU car?

I know where you are coming from. I also enjoy pulling the 456 out for a ride, it is a special car. I have an Aston Martin that is of the same era, very interesting driving both of them. Thoes on this sight that own a 456 have a special car that will give them rewards down the line. FYI take a look at the Aston DB-7, I think a big up side potential.

I am curious about your thoughts on both the Aston and the 456, given Clarksons comments.

Andrew D, I love the DB7. Is it a stick? That is definitely my next car. Let me know if you ever decide to part with it.

My Aston is a 6 spd manual and it is a wonderful car. The sound of it's V-12 is fantastic. My car is a one owner and was specked out with a 1986 R/R Belmorao green exterior and the hides are a deep tan, also special ordered. going back and forth between the 456 and the Aston is interesting. I would say to anyone, pick up an Aston and a 456, both are going north of 100K soon.
