VET: "It's part of motor racing. It's not ideal, especially on a day when you feel you have the right car. It's a shame for us" #MalaysiaGP Image Unavailable, Please Login
https://www.autosport.com/f1/news/132105/vettel-evaluating-return-to-old-start-system Sebastian Vettel could be ready to ditch the Ferrari start system he has exclusively used since the Spanish Grand Prix after conducting tests with the old version in Malaysia. As revealed by Autosport, Vettel had switched to a dual finger-hole clutch paddle arrangement in the wake of a poor getaway at the Russian Grand Prix. It replaced the single clutch paddle system he had previously used, and that Kimi Raikkonen has elected to remain with. Vettel's starts have been relatively good since Spain, but the poor getaway at the Singapore Grand Prix, after which he moved across and defended against Max Verstappen - causing a multi-car crash - has thrust the issue back in to the spotlight. Part of the explanation for the slow start in Singapore was down to him electing to pull away in second gear to minimise wheelspin, whereas Verstappen and Kimi Raikkonen used first gear, but it now appears the clutch paddle design has come under scrutiny too. Vettel was spotted in the Ferrari cockpit at Sepang on Thursday afternoon working intensely with the mechanics on the steering wheel arrangement.
70th Hammertime pole for Lewis, well done! Albeit by a hair thanks to the Iceman. Bummer for Vettel but with rain in the forecast anything is possible.
I don't have a lot of faith in Kimi getting past Hamilton. It will be exciting watching Vettel carve through the field. Other than that, it's just another disappointing race weekend with only a few races left.
I would think that is LH is passed by Kimi at the start, LH wont be looking to win in the first corner. With Vettel so far back it does not make much difference what Kimi does overall. It will be good for Kimi and he needs a good result.
It's going to be very tough for Seb to finish anywhere near the top 3. However, not impossible. It has happened before. Let's all hope for some kind of reliability issues on Elton's car.
I cannot believe this. I'm wondering if changing the engine was a proactive or precautionary action that some may have argued wasn't necessary. Either way we are where we are. What a mess.
that or a Safety Car(hoping who that is is okay) during the race....it will bunch up the field and cut Lewis's lead whereby Seb can have more opportunities.
Ferrari confirms "a problem which prevented the compressor (turbo) from feeding air to the engine properly," was to blame for Vettel's Q1 woe

Full of **** as usual. Pirelli also changed the tire pressures to favor Mercedes. This season is a joke and I am done!
No going to happen. The luckiest driver in F1 history wont have any failures for the remainder of the season.
Vettel would be on pole had it not been for the engine I wonder if it's the damage he sustained in Singapore that caused the engine to go bad ? Anyways hope it rains and he manages a podium
