That does sound nice, but the 1953 car? I am sure the 1952 Pan am cars will follow.

I found it. Phil Hill drove one of the ex works Ferrari 340's in 1953 wich he crashed. They are doing Phil Hill's 1954 340/375.

Try to help you guys out with this 1/12th scale thread as I collect them if they don't make a good kit.

New 1/12th scale from Top Marques:

    Lancia Integrale Evoluzione

    Dino 246

Tesla...don't ask why...Wait a year and they will be giving these away on ebay unless Tesla's owner gets another government grant and buys them all himself :).

And sister brand GP replicas McLaren MP4/4 in 1/12th scale

I think they are grey resin, but it weighs as much as a diecast I'm sure.

Without looking I think that Dino is 1/18th not 1/12th.

Ah ha! Well that is interesting...not very original, but interesting. One of the many problems with True Scale is that they show and announce models, which they then either never make, or they eventually produce 5 years or more after samples are shown. I wonder what the final accuracy and quality level will be? No guarantees, especially since True Scale is always inconsistent in accuracy. Some models are great, and some models make you wonder how they could screw up so much. I would like a 1:12 Dino, but I already have the aforementioned 1:18 Kyosho, and also a 1:14 Brianza with opening panels. So, I'll wait and see.

There are problems with the gray pattern sample shown that was originally listed as a 'Top Marques' future production piece. Will this be the new True Scale piece, or are both companies now going to produce the same thing?

Thanks David. That explains a lot. Personally I think it is ridiculous that several model manufacturers have come up with many different names. It does not help their business, brand, or the collector. It just "muddies the waters." Just a waste. Maybe they should all spend more time and effort actually doing proper research to produce better models....

To put it politely, the people at True Scale (whom I have had experience with in the past) have never been known for making the best decisions in many areas.

Although I would like a 12th scale Dino myself; the current trend of photetched door/side window framing currently in vogue has turned me off, my last 12th resin buy was the E Type in BRG; the driver door side window is slightly warped so it is displayed with the opposite side outwards [sigh] It seems the readymade high quality car model collectible era has passed...........

Speaking as a specialist manufacturer, collector and broker/dealer....I don't think that the era of high quality car models has completely passed.... Though it has certainly changed a lot over the years. There are still specialist companies that make some great models, but they cost substantially more than the cheaply produced and cheap to buy semi-mass market models available from companies like GT Spirit, True Scale, and others that offer big models at very low cost. I have bought some for myself, but with my eyes open, I know there are always issues with them. Some are so bad, I just never consider buying them. These manufacturers build to meet a low price point, even though they try to give a lot of bang for the buck, but often they disappoint. You get what you pay for.

Personally I think the Tamiya 1/12 GTO is a great representation of that model car in any scale and is the best in that scale.

Perhaps a little sterile in its perfection but the shape is spot on and the open/close nature takes it over the top.

The only versions that might be superior are the Bosica open/close version in 1/43 or perhaps Amalgam's 1/8 version or maybe the ultra-rare BBR example from the period in 1/24.

Even with those fantastic examples, I contend Tamiya's 1/12 version is the best.

I have a 1/12 GTO from Tamiya... and its very nice - but my only thing is the rear wheels don't align correctly with the body work.. its an odd visual perception. I don't know if my edition is just warped or not .. I;ve looked at taking it apart and trying to correct it, but its not worth the trouble. the finish on the model is very nice, detailing is very good as well.

I love 1/12 kits, and models... its the right amount of detail vs. size 1/8th and they start to take up a lot of space.... below are various models in either 1/12 or 1/8...

Any piece by a specialised builder can easily be better than a factorybuilt perfectly engineered production model.

Its comparing a seiko with a Rolex, both tell time. ;-) but are non comparable.

Collecting is all about personal choices, preferences, rarity and prices..

I can sum up several names and companies that create pieces that are (in my personal opinion) much better :)

price/quality of the 288GTO Tamiya is excellent, but I would never buy one (don't like plastic and zamac :)

I don't care what they are made out of if they are accurate and done well. I have seen plastic aircraft kits built to look better than any car model so material makes no difference. I do not like metal as well as I find it harder to work on.

No I mean, do you know of a specific example of the 288 that is better than the Tamiya 1/12 version? The 1/43 Bosica open/close version? The ultra rare 1/24 BBR version? Amalgam's 1/8 example?

What version of the 288 GTO do you own? :)

Good point. I see the same on mine. And the front of the car sits too low because the springs are not strong enough. So definitely not perfect.
