Nice. I understand that you are not in the position to share tech bits at this point, but I'm interested in your KERS spec i.e. weight, output, recovery efficiency, etc.

How much does the KERS weigh? Does it act as somewhat of an engine brake as well?

Audi said they got their flywheel weight down to 50lbs in the R18 e-tron. Crazy.

No weight penalty in racing as we're below minimum so it replaces ballast.

On the street version battery pack will fit in passenger foot well.

The whole system weighs about 200 lbs.

So far it won't fire as the battery control unit is DOA.

We have another one which works so we'll work through the night and install that one.

The race will be our first test assuming the system can fire.

We're in uncharted water but think we'll get a nice boost for a reasonable percentage of the lap fully recharging by braking during the lap but we shall see....

The flywheel system isn't practical for the street as it can't be sized for the passenger compartment footwell or behind the seats.

Audi's flywheel may weigh 50 lbs but I doubt the whole system does.

Our system basically replaces rear brakes.

Flywheels also have a gyro issue which can affect handling so for the street I doubt we'll see them.

Our goals are modest. 500 extra free HP for 3/4 of the Lap....

The Ferrari's seem to have pulled out of Saturdays race but the McLarens, Porsche's, MB's, Audi's, Toyota's, Aston's, Lotus's, VW's, and BMW's will make it as we will.

.
You are correct. The flywheel first used in the 911 GT3 hybrid weighed ~125lbs. The following year it was lightened to ~70lbs & this year Audi has cut the weight on that same flywheel to 50lbs.

Best of luck.

Awesome pix as always.

That's the batteries in the passenger footwell, correct? Seems they're air cooled and the generator is water cooled?

Hopefully the new control unit works as advertised......

Good luck,
Cheers,
Ian

They're scared of you?

Seriously, any reasons given? Have they built yet another Clifford?

Cheers,
Ian

That's the race battery pack and it takes up the passenger area and is air cooled. The street pack will be smaller and air cooled as well.

The KERS generator and inverter are water cooled.

Replacment controller already works so we should be able to test/race this weekend.

Not sure why.

The Z4's/Audi's and MB were fast. The Ferrari's and Macca's less so. We're better than last year but have a ways to go which we feel we can.

Is this a typo, sarcasm, or a "fantasy" goal?

At the 'ring I imagine KERS would be used in Kesselchen, the main straights (NS and the F1 track), and maybe a few other places for a short time to pass, roughly?

means I was kidding.

That said we're hopeful it will make a difference...

Front view/end seems significantly improved relative to previous year.

Car has much lower drag with good downforce.

I'm heading to The Ring.

Wish Us Luck!
