Beat the heat at "Caffeine & Octane"
With the triple-digit heat now about to descend on "Hotlanta", the only viable time to drive classic cars is early in the day, before the heat builds to uncomfortable levels. That makes "Caffeine & Octane" the ideal type of car show for summer.
The next one is this coming Sunday, July 1 at the same location. Considering the small turnout this month due to the rain, I'd expect a bigger turnout in July. Get there early, enjoy the show, then get home and put the car away before the big heat. |

I figured I was asking for trouble by not showing up until 7:40 (still pretty early to me), and indeed the lot was very nearly full and I managed to find a spot between a Cadillac CTS and a Chrysler 300. I saw Ivan pulling in in a gorgeous Maserati Mistral, and was glad that he found a spot, right in between a vendor selling CanAm Spyders and another one selling Cessna airplanes! (No, no Cessnas on the premises!)
I expected an early crowd because of the impending heat, and by 8:30 it was getting oppressive. (I told someone that it already felt like 2 PM!) I was going to stay until 9 but I was already feeling like a wet rag, so I bugged out at 8:40, and I was far from the first to leave. Even though cars were still arriving, they were not having the usual trouble finding places to park, and I'd bet that by 10 AM the lot was probably quite empty. Hopefully August will be more reasonable. I only took one trip through the lot but still averaged about a photo per minute, even trying to be very selective. The Daytona in the first pic is Jack Dowling's, and the F430 belongs to his brother! At least 3 yellow Ferraris on the premises, not a bad color for a hot day. And some very interesting motorcycles. More photos to come. |

I'm located in Mississippi on the Gulf Coast but will be staying at the Marriott in Alpharetta on Sunday, August 5th and would love to check out the event. Will it be held that day at Mansell Crossing near North Point Mall?

Your info is several locations out of date. The current location is on the northwest corner of Windward Parkway and Deerfield Parkway; from the Marriott, just go west on Windward under GA-400 and then about another 1/2 mile.

All of the major Italian manufacturers were represented by at least one car. As you can see, the usual variety was very much in evidence.

And here are the rest, including a quick jaunt through the overflow lot.

And so, as the Winkin' Lincoln would say, "See y'all next month".

I there at 6:45 am, thought I would just be sitting around looking at tree bark. The place already had about 30 cars there. And, the heat was already making it hard to breath.
I ended up parking down by Jack (Daytona) and his brother in the 430. And had a good chair under the smallest tree on Gilligan's Island, but it did help. Shots of some things floating around. I was the last to leave the parking lot. Just got use to the heat and could not imagine getting cool. I have never been to hot, but I have been way tooooooo cold. Again, Jim, Great Photos on your post. Met some really nice people, and saw a old friend from FAF days, Steve Ahlgrim. That was really fun. The first car ever sold by FAF as a true dealer, we bought it. Turned out to be the Fiberglass 308 GTB. But, a year before or so, John Apin, and Ewing Hunter sold us a White 308 GT4. I think all of us will remember the heat for a very long time, and wish about the warm days during the winter, not sure if it really was that hot. |

quoting a friend who's seen the pictures -
"The pictures make the selection of cars seem a lot more interesting than it really was. Where's the big corner of the parking lot filled with Infiniti G35s? What about the whole long row of late model Saab sedans?" He has a point! |

I think because of the limited space the event should be expanded. European cars on the first Sunday of the month, American muscle and classics on the second Sunday, Japanese cars on the third and everything else on the fourth Sunday.

Even the Saab people are die hard about their cars. I like seeing the whole range.
I think the separate weekends would weaken the event. It is about car people, not brand and club only. Just my thoughts. I was like road atlanta you see everything, some you hate , but others make your day. I don't think it should be individual club cars. Muscle,European, Japanese. Too much of a separation of cars. I would not want a GT R Nissan, but I do like seeing them, and talking to the guys that are all hyped up on it. Free advice is worth what you pay. John |

Proper Perspective
Quote:
I am sure they come for the variety of cars, and to be able to talk to other people with simple interests, yet we are complaining about that same "variety". Come on guys, this show is not about us, it is about the people that enjoy cars, and want to meet other people with the same interests. If Jesse and his family can make the physical sacrifices to see this show, how can we possibly complain about the type of cars that show up. If you don't like the show, don't show up, someone else will be more than happy to take your parking spot. |

that's my friend chad behind the GTR, he's forged's staff photographer. how do y'all feel about the fisker kharma? every time i see one i keep thinking it's one of the most amazing looking cars i've ever seen. not a big fan of the "handlebar mustache" across the front but other than that, i love every angle of it. |
