It's a great idea to produce those 16". The original 390 mm I believe is 13" 3/8, so it will be an improvement. Shure I will order a set for my Mondial QV.
    Greetings, Guido

I just ordered a set. Anyone know what size tire will closely approximate the diameter of the original 240/55-390s? I'd like to keep the spedo and odometer as accurate as possible. 225/50?

How about tire suggestions. I don't plan on autocrossing or tracking, just the spirited drive now and then.

    Thanks.

    The 3.2's and t's used 225/55-16s
I think this is an excellent replacement tire size and many, many options.

Thanks for the information about the Suerformance Mondial wheel. However, does Superformace have a U.S. distributor & if so who is that? For those who've ordered a set of wheels, are they being shipped from the UK? If so, what is the shipping charge? Thanks for the information.

I sent an e-mail to Superformance in the UK & got a reply that the shipping costs for a set of 4 wheels to the USA is 150 pounds sterling.

T Rutlands was the U.S. distributor for the Superformance 308 replica wheels for a while, but not sure if they are anymore.

Got mine last week and just put them on the car yesterday. Total cost with shipping and currency conversion was just under $1300. I ended up going with the Avon M500 225/55-16s. These are an exact match for the overall diameter of the original TRXs. Not many performance tire choices in a 225/55-16. Goodyear stopped producing the F1 DS-G3s in this size. So far however the Avons are great. Very, very quiet and track very well. All the twitchiness is gone and steering at slow speeds is much improved.

The finish on the Superformance wheels is acceptable. There are a few blemishes here and there. The center caps don't fit well - they rattle around a bit. The good news is the center caps from the original wheels fit like gloves.

All in all I'm very happy with going this route. The car still has its original look and the Avons have transformed the ride tremendously.

$1300 is a very fair price too. I expect they will sell a lot of these. If I hadn't already moved to 348 wheels on the Mondial I would buy these. I have the Superformance 308 wheels (different offset from these) and I like them a lot.

I expect that these will ride a lot better than the 348 setup I have, which has very high steering effort.

I have found through several sets of tires that steering effort really varies more between brands and tire widths than rim diameter. Perhaps YOUR WIFE should consider putting Avons on HER MONDIAL to decrease the steering effort. :)
When I went from the original POS 205/55-15 Gatorbacks to Pirelli P-6000 at 215/55-16 the ride got smoother, response quicker, ride quieter and steering effort decreased, even though the stated section was a bit larger.

I've had so many tire combinations perhaps we should start a Mondial Tire thread.

;) I will have to ask her what she thinks about that idea! ;)

FYI, I have been away on business for the past 6 weeks so today was the first chance I had to fire up the Mondial after the winter sleep. I pulled off the trickle charger and it started right up in about 2 seconds. No problems at all. Love that car! Now she just needs an oil change, a wash and some street time!

Yes, I just got home and looked up my invoice. The wheels were 675 pounds sterling and shipping to NY was 150 pounds sterling.

    Hi,

Do any of you have information on a Twin Turbo Mondial, if any have been modified?

    Thanks.

I'm re-visiting this thread to ask if any other Mondial guys have bought these wheels and what they thought? I think they look very nice....very much like the original TRX wheels but with a normal tire!
