In the January 2006 issue of Sports Car Market, there is an article that nearly brought tears to my eyes. So far, it is estimated that over 600 collector cars were destroyed in the area that Hurricane Katrina swept into memory. At this point it is not known how many Ferrari's were in that number. Maybe some of you know Ferrari owners in that area.

No, these vehicles were not more important than the thousands of lives lost and forever disrupted, but these vehicles represent a piece of our history which has value.

    So sad.

Some were destroyed in fire and building collapses, but true collector cars will be restored back from water damage.

I know someone who said a black Enzo was partially flooded at his condo in Miami (during Katrina). They have underground garages.

Even though the insurance might cover that TR, could it ever run again, or is it destined to become a parts-car?

A lot will depend on where the car was. In some (mostly urban) areas the combination of petroleum pollutants (oil, gas, etc) and sweage/biological contaminants effectively make the car biohazards. In fact, at least one insurer, Progressive, has elected to crush cars from highly contaminated areas rather than deal with the potential problems of reparing/restoring the vehicles.

Car value - (repair est. + salvage value) = parts car.

That does not take into account the cost overruns the Ins. knows WILL happen and the down the road liability the Ins. Co. has.

The insurer won't want anything to do with it.

Why are the steering wheels different? Must not be the same yellow TR. Wow - what are the odds of two yellow TR's flooding ?
Not sure, but the gear shift knobs may be different too.

Funny you should say that, I just noticed the difference. I assumed it was the same car but clearly the first interior shot is a different car.

First interior shot is a TR. All the others are a 512TR.

I know and understand what you are saying. But during the aftermath of Katrina, I saw a brief video on t.v. that showed a brown standard poodle--just like mine--floating away on a pile of debris. I practically cried. Then, I cursed myself for being more concerned for a dog than all the human suffering.
From any angle, that whole disaster was just that--a disaster. Property lost; people dead/homeless/scared, families seperated, etc.; national pride shattered.
Not flaming you. Hope that's clear.

I saw all the images of the abandoned pets and almost cried. Some owners left them chained outside after they evacuated. A lot never had a chance.

To each his own, but I would much rather have my Ferrari destroyed than see my beloved dogs hurt. There is no way to describe it, they are like children. It wouldn't be the same just to get another.

At least the spare muffler didnt get wet, just above the water line. That car could be fixed but you would have to get it for almost nothing, take all apart and basically perform a restoration on it. Is it worth it?
