550 is 8.5" +46mm front, 10.5" +32mm rear ...it looks like you need a set of 348 or maybe 355 wheels for your baby
I guess I don't understand why people say that 550 wheels are interchangeable with 456 wheels? The numbers tell a different story.
Actually if the numbers for the 456 are right (which I got off of ebay from an unknown source, so I do not trust them as much as I do the others) The effect of putting smaller offset wheel on your large offset hub will cause an spacer effect (4mm each side) similar to as if you had spacers for the difference (conversely larger offset wheels on a normally smaller offset using hub means you need spacers to make up the difference, like a 308 with its 12 putting on 360 with its larger offset). Compare the following numbers: (width x 25.4)/2 - offset) for the two cars. Thus, yes the front DO INDEED work, with a 4mm spacer effect on each side. The rears would be 101.35 (550) to 102.4 (456) = also next to nothing. Thus YES the numbers say the wheels DO work. Sorry I did not check this thread earlier.
Installing the wheels on your car will have the effect of 'outspacing' the wheel by 4mm. In other words the final result of installing the wheel will be the same as if you kept your stock wheels and added 4mm spacers on each side. This is due to the center offset differences between the two wheels. As for the bolts to use, use the quick bolt check technique..ie, stick the OEM 550 bolt in the 550 wheel and measure how much sticks out inside the wheel. Then do the same with a 456 wheel. The value needs to be very similar (with in a few mm) If it is too long, the wheel will not move, if too little the wheel will fall off.
I know you've rounded, but the EXACT offsets for the 16" Cromodora 308QV wheels are: Front: +11.15 mm (7" wheels) Rear: +11.45 mm (8" wheels)
I'm confused, smaller offset hub vs. larger offset. My reading of the data you provided[thanks] seems to indicate that the front wheels from a 456 would work very well on a 348, but the backs wouldn't, or do you also need to know the offset of the hubs on your particular car. I'm looking for something to replace the stock 348 wheels [cause I think they are clunky looking] but mass confusion rules, and there are some tasty looking 456 rims on Epay. Can you help? thanks.
So if you put a 360 rear wheel on the back of a 348....the offset is different by 29mm....how does the 10 inch wheel compare to the 9 inch wheel...does this space the wheel out another 1 inch? another 1/2 inch? or does the offset already compensate for increased width of the wheel?
The offset value is independent of wheel width so the outboard wheel edge of a 10" wheel would be moved out another 1/2" (relative to a 9" wheel).
Yes, the outboard edge of the 10" 360 rear wheel would be in the same position as when a 41.7 mm spacer is added to the stock 348 rear wheel. (And the inboard edge of the 10" 360 rear wheel would be in the same position as when a 16.3 mm spacer is added to the stock 348 rear wheel.)

You're welcome. And thank you for starting this very useful thread. I am thinking of ordering a set of BBS LM wheels for the 550. Retailer shows LM front offset at only 25mm. Now, that's a big difference with the 46mm you listed before. So out of curiosity I took my OEM wheels off to double check and found the slight discrepency. I tried the rear OEM wheels with 32mm offset on the front. Despite being 10.5" wide with 295/35-18 tire and 11.65mm less offset, the rear will fit at the front if I give it a bit more negative camber. 550 being so front heavy I think its handling will improve a lot if I widen the front track with less offset. So now I may just get a pair of OEM rears to use at the front instead of buying a set of LM.
