After reading some of the current threads, looks like the dispute section, formerly known at Politics & Religion has moved to this section. Any comments?

Not only is it mainly upto the mods to move and delete that side of conversation from OT, but also its up to us to avoid those issues in here as well.

Want to talk P&R? Pony up. Go for your life.

I personally dont really give a flying **** about American politics, as im more pre-occupied with my own countries issues, so im happy about this change.

After reading all this nonsense on the other threads, I have changed my mind. All sections that are not related to cars should be shut down immediately. No other. No P&R. No B&I. And any time someone posts a non-car topic, it should be immediately deleted. If someone does this more than one, ban em.

I think that the chat room should be dropped also.

This crap of hacking accounts, posting people's addresses, threatening to sue, sending PMs accusing people of being Nazis, keying cars, and so forth and so on has got to stop.

I realize that this will hurt Rob's post count. But I can't imagine that his customers care to see all the bs.

I'm a real idiot when it comes to the internet. All I know how to do is to randomly click. But the thought that someone would try to hunt me down over something posted on a car board is just weird beyond belief.

In fact, I think that a big part of the problem is that this place is too big. I have been wasting my time here for almost 3 years. Back in the day, we didn't have all this random bs going on. Well, okay Carbon, in another life, would sometimes lose it, and who can forget JR and Allan. But it was pretty easy to avoid. If you saw their names, you just kept on going.

    But this crap is unacceptable.

    Bigger is not better.

    (totally unfair)

It is not fair to shut it down, for the people that do not throw mud. Some people have very good debates and conversations. Quite a few people in the P&R room, have had good conversations for quite a few years. Every room will have some problems.

It does get boring to just talk about fuel injection and rims.

Let the mods do their job.

I think it actually proves that P & R itself was not the 'cause' of the problem- that hostility, pettiness, jealousy and mayhem will leak into any thread, no matter how innocuous the subject matter. I don't think 'other off topic' has been a repository for too many faux P & R threads and the ones that do get posted here get moved or deleted pretty quickly. Instead, it seems that all this skirmishing here now has nothing to do with politics, religion or anything other than personal hostilities among various users of the board, subscribed and unsubscribed.
The cure, i think, is not to punish the majority, whether frequent, new or infrequent users, subscribed or unsubscribed, who generally behave~ by eliminating enjoyable non-car features of the board. (In fact, I think with all the various OT sections eliminated, something happens in the world, and people are going to post about it, whether it's under the rubric of Car Tech or otherwise).
It is, for better or worse, up to the mods. Temporary bans for intemperate users who clearly cross the line, with a warning. Permanent ban thereafter, if the user can't refrain from repeatedly crossing the line.
As to past trolls who reemerge, I'd like to go off line to talk with our tech wizards about some better control on that front.
As as to the few hardy souls who manage to stay here, despite it all, and still have a reputation as provocateurs and trouble makers, well, that is a problem, but one that seems managable, because they are a known quantity, and on balance seem to provide something, even for those who rail against them.

Up until recently, I agreed with you, but no longer

The problem is that things are going beyond posts. For example, apparently, user A threatened to drop a dime on User B over a sales tax issue. User B got mad and threatened legal action against user A. Then User A buddy jumped in the ring, followed by User B buddy, and on, and on, and on. Next thing you know, locations of home are being posted on F-Chat. And it got worst. If you believe what half of what you read, some folks actually paid a visit to other User's homes. Then we have User X car getting keyed.

Want another example? Apparently somebody sent a German User a PM calling him a Nazi. I believe that this actually a crime in Germany.

Want more? Apparently somebody hacked a moderator's account and was pissing all over the chat room.

This is beyond asinine, and it is going to get worst.

Bill, I used to belong to an ABA email list on taxes. They did not allow the use of aliases. If you posted something, you had to be able to take the heat. But even with that, one guy who was in jail for tax fraud started threatening other users with violence once he got out in a few months.

I don't know what causes all this. I guess that I just don't understand the Internet. And you know what? I don't want to know.

I agree but don't see anything wrong with B&I in subscribed. Its not doing anybody any harm. I think every site needs an off topic but recently its gotten out of control. Prehaps Rob should take away off topic for a few months to let everyone cool down.

I think OffTopic should be monitered heavily for any P&R content and either be moved to P&R or deleted or locked immediately. From a recent experience I now am in the camp that F-chat should be Ferrari/exotic/car/fun(guns!) or silly stuff-related and not P&R. Are there not already myriads of religious and political blog sites out there?? Why create our own version of them? :)

Take OT away and I'll either put a bullet in my head or borrow Art's shifter and drive into a wall at 120MPH!

PS: ART! I still have your box of kart stuff. Any chance I can deliver it to a local track? (nod-nod-, hint-hint!)...Hey, maybe you can show up with your kart and we can drive!
