I had a guy in a new 2005 Mustang GT pass me on the road (I let him, as I feel racing on a public road is stupid). Later to get to a stop light next to him (he quit speeding once he was in front of me) and ask me how I felt getting passed by a Mustang. I just shook my head.

What a jerk. I later looked at the performance numbers of our cars..on fast-autos.net...they're pretty similar. I feel like I should have just down shifted and not let him pass me. I know it's stupid and I shouldn't care...I'm just annoyed.

Does this happen often to other Fcar owners?

The worst piece of junk on the road can go 30MPH over the speed limit on Phoenix freeways and I get passed often. I’m brand agnostic (actually have owned a Ferrari and a Mustang at the same time) and I enjoy my cars for what they are; great engineering, design, history. I love to share my cars with other gearheads, and if someone doesn’t like Ferrari, or needs to feel superior by passing me….they are welcome to as long as they don’t endanger me or my family.

    Two more notes:

    1. When I was living in California, the CHP said publicly that some of the most dangerous drivers were at the wheel of 5 liter Mustangs. The cost to power and power to driving skills ratios did not favor safety.

    2. We all seem to get hung up on acceleration which unless you are trying to optimize your drag racing launch requires zero skill…..just mash the go pedal. I’ll always invite these jokers to meet me at the next open track day to show their stuff…

    Seems to be some rule of physics, all Civic Si's, Sunfires, and Neon's have an urgent need to do a flyby of the Ferrari. I feel I'm doing a public service by;
    1) stroking their ego by letting them
    2) maybe one day they'll clue in that the guy in the Ferrari didn't need to race

I used to be one of the Mustang 5.0 guys, then a 4.6 dual-cam guy, now Ferrari. I get it now. Besides, almost any new performance car is faster accelerating than a 348.

I get a good laugh out of it, it's usually some big pickup here in Oklahoma with his girl friend trying to get a look while he blasts past me so she can't.

A good response to the Mustang owner might have been...
"Did you pass me? Oh, I didn't notice" :)

Happens all the time. Usually they just pull up first and then try to antagonize me to run the cars down the highway. I look over and start laughing hysterically at them. This just usually just pisses them off because I’m laughing at them out of control. My favorite still to this day is when I’m at a red light and people pull up, usually families and ask me what I do for a living. I look over and say, I star in PORN movies. They roll there windows up and never look over at me till the light turns green. Oh the power of the F Car!

Why bother? YOU'RE the one in the Ferrari.

I get more tuner guys wanting to race than muscle car guys. I ignore them and if they're persistent I raise my hand and do a little waving motion with my hand to dismiss them.

I've had a couple of incidents where a diesel pickup will try and blow exhaust through my window at a stop light or while cruising down the road. I don't get too upset...but those people are true a-holes.

    It's actually pretty hilarious!
Jacked up pickup trucks blasting by, Ricers blasting by, pretty much anything that has a speedo that goes up higher than 80 mph blasting by, driver grinning, passenger rubber necking to try and see what the heck they'd just blown off!
Then they slow down a couple hundred yards ahead of you, passenger still rubber necking, still trying to figure out what they'd so soundly trounced!
Funny thing is that I like looking at cars, be they jacked up chromed out pickups, or ricers with scoops and gizmos and huge buckets for exhaust pipes, but the general mentality seems to blow that red whateveritwas in the weeds.
But the ones I really have to chuckle about are the P-car drivers! P-cars are like fleas in San Diego, in that every dog has one, but I've yet to see one of those guys even so much as twitch an eyeball toward my lowly old boxer. Maybe it's something in the owners manual that says they're not aloud to look at other cars, huh?
Guess I'll just have to keep driving my old red thing so I can continue looking at other cars! :)

    Hello from Germany,

such things happen over here all the time too. But wait till the day when things happen like those I experienced twice.

First a series 7 BMW left the road after he had to pass my 308 when a sharp bend followed.
Some years later a ricer had to pass me on a road with 70 km/h speed limit at roughly 140 km/h. Unfortunately there were cops inside a civil police car behind us. They left me unmolested but at the next traffic light they stopped the ricer. Regarding his speed while overtaking me I think he lost his driver's licence.

    Best Regards

    Martin

Funny, my car slows down other cars! I'll just be toodling along, moving with the normal flow of traffic, and I'll have cars that are zooming along come to my car, slow down and gawk, then zip off. This is such a common occurance that even my passengers notice it. On the flip side, if I do pass a car (generally a high-end model), they really seem to get pissed that such a "lowly" car has passed them and they will speed up and make it a point to pass me.

LOL. This I have done many times too. "Hey, we love your car and was wondering what do you do for a living?" One word "PORN". Their windows go up and they wont look at me again. hehe. I wonder if they are disgusted or know I am being a prick. I usually embarrass my passenger, but hey, I am tired of these personal questions.

Now if I can find a good response to "how much does it cost" The rest of the stupid questions I dont mind (how many miles to the gallon, what year is it, is that a ferrari, blah blah blah)

The only one that I find annoying is the corvette owner trying to educate me on why his car is much better. I usually just smile, nod and thank them for their concern.

Nice generalizations in this thread. Title should read "Stupid Drivers". It's nice to be able to paint with a really broad brush, but it's usually wrong.

I've driven by a number of insecure, self-absorbed "Gold-Chain Guidos" in F-cars. Is it right for me to generalize that all F-car owners are like that?

C'mon folks. Let's act like adults around here. The Mustang bashing on this site really makes me wonder how secure some of you really are.

One mustang owner that happened to be a jerk off does not speak for all of us. A little respect is in order.

Bottom line -- what difference does it make what these idiots think? Does it really matter to you that some jerk in a Mustang, ricer, POS whatever SUV, etc. says or does? As long as they don't touch my car, I really don't care what they do or say. If he honestly thinks his car is better than yours, so what. It makes no difference to you. Or at least it should make no difference to you. The absolute best thing you can do is have a good laugh, mutter to yourself "******", and go on about your business. It's those stupid, senseless, totally meaningless street races that lead to someone (usually an innocent bystander) getting killed. To prove what?

The best part of being a grownup is not having to get involved in ego wars like that. So stay out of my way or I'll have to blow your doors off. ;-)
