More twisted thoughts from the fevered imaginations of Scuderia Modificato, this time assisted by the photochop skills of FarmerDave First was the Mike Charness-inspired GTB/s look Then the early 308 no-spoiler look But I've always hated the big side marker lights. Smoothing the fenders and installing euro lights is an option, but what about something more....modern. Such as LEDs hidden in the body line. When off they'd be invisible, and when lit... I agree. and, with the lights turned off. (ie pretty much invisible) Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hmmm....got a list, actually. Lowered a bit, 550 style wheels in 17", euro mirrors, custom AC ducting/blower, megasquirt, eaton M90, interior cleanup -- should all take several years, good times
Even if they did not disappear when off, they would look better in the body line instead of above it.
I took a couple more liberties, Tillman. Not 550 rims, but a similar style that looks better, IMO. Image Unavailable, Please Login
The door handles are gorgeous. The locks, however, should have been placed in the black bodyline from Day One.
I really like the idea and the way it looks via your photoshop pics, but my concern would be that you'd lose A LOT of potential visibility by other drivers during daytime; it might not be seen by other people unless they're at a very low ride-height or the correct angle, while the originals are very visible from any ride height and side angle (which I understand that's why you don't like them).
I don't disagree, but the side marker lights really don't serve any purpose in the daytime. They don't blink (unless modded), and hopefully people can see a 3000 pound object in the daylight I can see the point in really bad weather/fog
Tiillman--Looks awesome. Something to think about IF you ever sell it. The next person will never get in through an inspection process to get it registered with some of those mods. I like them though, the LED side marker lights look killer.
When you say inspection process/getting it registered, are you referring to the "State Safety Inspection" or a "Pre-Purchase Inspection"? I wouldn't think the state cares a flip exactly what the turn signal lights look like, so long as there are some. I can see where a "keep it stock" potential buyer might have a problem with that mod, but not the state safety inspection?
If the side marker lights are on solid at night, only flashing when signaling a turn, it should pass most inspections.
State inspection is what I am referring to. I can only speak for MD, but all lights have to be a certain size, a certain brightness-night or day, most lights have a built in reflector which needs to be visible day or night. Most vehicles from the factory possess all this requirements when you change them you may run into problems. Some examples are the WHiTE or clear colored tailights that were the rage a few years ago. Illegal because they don't possess the visibility requirements or the reflector which is in them from the factory. Side marker lights usaually have some type of reflective plastic in them. Switching to LED's which are clear when not on would be considered illegal. The MD transportation article states you Shall not remove or change any lights which diminish the characteristics of the stock lights. You can not even change your tire size more than 2 sizes from factory w/o it being illegal. I am sure most states have these requirements, whether they are enforced or not--I can't say. Don't get me wrong here I think the Tillman project looks awesome, just something to think about if he ever decides to sell it.
Here's the relevant TXDOT code, http://www.capitol.state.tx.us/statutes/tn.toc.htm And the section specifically relating to turn signal markers: http://www.capitol.state.tx.us/statutes/docs/TN/content/htm/tn.007.00.000547.00.htm#547.324.00 I am dizzy after trying to figure it out, but I interperet that the modifications proposed would be legalin Texas. I may be wrong, I'm no lawyer. I did have another thought.... Imagine if one was to perform the modification, and there were no reflective properties to the lights. If you pulled into an intersection legally at night, and someone was drunk or not paying attention and blew the traffic signal, the reflectors may catch their eye and they might see you, where they may not if there is no reflective lens over the led's. Food for thought. They do look bit chin though!
Those are similiar laws to MD but ours are a little more strict. The visible distance part should be no problem since LED's are brighter than halogen bulbs.
Thanks for the feedback I kinda like the dots better. The bar look could be accomplished by sinking a "normal" style light into the body reveal, and that might solve the reflector issue too. I'd also be relying a bit on the inspector not really knowing Ferraris, and so not noticing the non-stock config If done right, this could actually be a reversible mod -- just recut the hole and reinsert the original marker lights, fill the LED holes and repaint. Easy Now I just need the plate RISOTO wonder if the high TR mirror will fit a 328....
Risotto, Tillman, risotto... It looks great, more like a Euro spec. BTW, I notice that the wing is back. I like it better like that. Ciao Eugenio
My front turn signals have been a non-dot euro version for four years now. Neither NY or PA inspectors have even given them a glance. I'm sure they are illegal, but I've never found anyone who cares.
Actually, that's an older pic we're editing from, the wing is still gone. RISOTO because we only are allowed 6 letters here in Texas
