Here's the news I heard recently: there is a plan to develop an "entry level" Ferrari, called "Dino" like the old 246GT. This car would be a back-to-basics mid-engined two-seater with a V6 engine (3.4 litres capacity, I heard). The V6 engine would be designed by "chopping" the existing V12 in two, and developed into 2.7, 3.0 and 3.4 litre versions using substantial economies of scale (i.e. cheaper parts and materials) to make it more cost-effective. This engine would also end up on Alfa Romeos and entry-level Maseratis, which would benefit from a genuine "Modenese" V6 rather than the current GM-derived unit which NO enthusiast in the world would ever accept on a Maser, and barely on an Alfa. So it seems like interesting things are boiling in Modena... but I don't know if it's already happening or if it's just speculation. Does anyone have "fresh" news about all this?
I've read some stories about that too... But I guess it's still mostly speculation by now? Could be intresting... maybe! http://www.italiaspeed.com/2005/cars/ferrari/05/dino/0405.html http://www.autocar.co.uk/news_article.asp?na_id=214573 among others... Also waiting for more fresh info on this topic! (attached pic is a Photoshop, off course) Image Unavailable, Please Login
I have seen "spy" pics of the new "Dino" somewhere on Fchat. Will search for it and post them here later.
I would rather see a modern interpretation of a rear-engined 12-cylinder than an "entry level" Ferrari. I really don't like the idea of cheapening the brand! MARK
I have heard through the grapevine that the new Dino will be entry level, but it will be 1 model as a 6 or 8 (not decided yet) with 400hp. It will go to the basics, but account for about 50% of their market space. It will still provide the ferrari feel, and modern technologies, just not as advanced as the F430. It will be one model only and will not have these options of a 6 or an 8. THe rumor you heard of the different engine sizes has more to do with which they wish to use, as opposed to a la carte dino engines. This is all current speculation, ferrari is putting out this potential rumor to see how it will or would be recieved if they decided to move forward with this project.
Well said Mark! Thats the reason why "a few" F nuts are leaving Ferrari! There is NO rear engine 12 cylinder on the F market
I agree. But perhaps if the car is branded and badged a Dino and not Ferrari, then it won't cheapen the brand. A mid engined Murci beater is definitely needed A testarossa for the 'noughties'
Yep.......but that's not Ferrari's problem!! For the FXX people are allready standing in rows to buy it. This way Ferrari is getting more exclusive then Lamborghini again!!
never ever! F.E. Diablo GT only 80 produced!!! ENZO.....399....äähhh sorry 402.....ääähhhh sorry 422.....and still not ending..
That is not a fare comparison. They build many Diablo's but they only build 80 GT's. That is the same as 1000 F40's and only a handful of F40 LM's. How many Gallardo's will Lamborghini produce now that they are owned by Audi?
Enlighten me about that number. How is that possible? Did they not build 399 cars and 1 extra for charity?
Now I don't agree! The FXX is something completely different! Before we know it you will call the Maserati MC12 also an Enzo!!
So, why did they replace them? If I buy a toy and I burn it then the factory usually doe not give me a new one.
I also think there's a warranty on these "toys"... if my new Fiat Punto was to burn down, it would also be replaced by the company - it's part of the warranty! Of course, this is only valid if the car burns down because of a fault - if you crash it into the walls at Monza it's your problem: you'll get insurance money but no replacement Enzo! So I assume that these 2 Enzos burned down because of technical problems?? Wolfgang, do you know more about it?
That is what I mean! If Ferrari replaced both cars they admitted that the fires must have been started through some kind of technical vault. Sounds like Wolfgang's TR! (if you bring it back they will give you a new one!)
Hello my Euro friends! One of the fires happened in Houston, Texas... But I don't think you can blame it on Ferrari! http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=10695 Search "dahr enzo" and you'll find lots of information!
