WINNER: at least 1 tyre company can create a tyre for the required speeds on the required track on the required weekend. bridgestone should gain other teams that want to be assured they can race every weekend.

WINNERS: and 3 teams had the balls to run as a sport requires. and the judgement to select a better tyre company for the long run.

WHINERS: Michelin should be banned from the sport

COLLATERAL LOSER: indy loses likely permanently, as no other form of racing has the promise to rejuvenate it from irrelevancy.

COLLATERAL WINNER: other US sites. F1 will likely accelerate move to vegas.

I wouldn't count this hollow victory, in fact the points earned for this race shouldn't count at all.

Can you just imagine Ferrari winning the constructors'
championship by only a few points and its detractors
forever more pointing to this race with total derision?

I am inclined to agree with you, though reluctantly.

Congratulations to Ferrari for refusing to join the other teams in calling for a chicane so I might have been able to see a damned race yesterday! I'm just glad I only came down from Detroit rather than the people next to us in the stands that had traveled from Finland and the Czech Republic !

I'm offering a set of Michelin Pilot Sports cheap...

I guess this "race" is a real shame. It's all Ferrari's fault...
It's still just a dumb sport, nothing else, so they could at least be fair-play and agree on the changes. Nobody discussed the rules these last years when they won everything hands down.

The big loosers are the ones who paid to see the "show" IMO.
The winners are yet to be found. F1 is since years a pathetic formula that just reached another top.

While for the purpose of having a good show I would tend to agree, Bridgestone teams need not to be penalized by someone else's mistakes (i.e. Michelin and the Michelin teams). Ferrrari won fair and square becuase they ran the distance regardless of what happened to the others..... As everybody has said already it's the fans that lost big.

Why? If this happened to Bridgestone, the race would have continued and everyone would say "poor Ferrari, can't get their act together this year." Would you take the points away from Alonzo or Raikenan (spelling?). No. Only 3 teams would have had the problem. I guarantee the race would have continued. Sure this race sucked for the fans, but why penalize teams ready to race?

The 360's and 550's didn't fare so well. Anyone have any insight? Mechanical problems?

    Yes, congratulations!!

IMO, the points have been rightfully assigned to the participants of the race. It would be a travesty to even consider declaring this race a non-scoring event.

The request to add a chicane is ridiculous. Even in the interest of safety, wholly ridiculous. I have no recollection, of a request to make a last minute change in the layout of the track, ever being made to suit a tire manufacturer's shortcomings. The track layout change could be requested for future dates but not here in the 11th hour.

Michelin simply, in their competitive development, got it wrong and in the interest of safety, image, marketing and liability, (and not necessarily in that order) decided to request that it's teams withdraw from the race.

Has Minardi requested that FIA slow the other cars to make their cars more competitive?

If your team's engines have a history of catastrophic failure at high speed, do you request that the sanctioning body slow the race down by adding a chicane in the fast straight?

At LeMans a while back, did Mercedes request that the track be changed to prevent their cars from taking flight?

Bridgestone is capitalizing on Michelin's and F1 demise in the US.

    According to ITV-F1
"Bridgestone-sponsored Champ Car World Series, rival to Indianapolis’ IRL IndyCar Series, has offered free entry to its next race for all US GP ticket holders."

DAmn I should my car on the grid too ... I would have been 25 secs a lap slower maybe much more but I would have still beaten Trulli and Raikkonen to a points finish

How did running in that parade take balls? Sucked as it might have i think it took balls to pull 14 cars off the grid. I'm glad I don't have Michelins and now never will. The whole US might have lost out on this one, it might mean the death of the USGP in general not only at Indy. There are no winners, only losers and that would be all of us.
