    Hi Everyone,
Our 1983 Mondial QV has recently gotten new wheels. I got rid of the TRX wheels and tires and replaced them with 348 wheels. (Looks killer!) The car is in need of an alignment (which has nothing to do with the wheel change) but I'm wondering....should I use the stock alignment settings as described in the owners manual for the TRX wheels, or perhaps something else? I'm not an expert on alignments. I don't need an aggressive alignment or anything. Actually, an alignment that minimizes wear is fine with me. Any thoughts?

Use stock QV settings for the NON trx wheels (ie, the stock 16" wheels settings will be a better match to your 17" 348 wheels)

I'd up the front camber to -0.5 deg (from 0 deg) and reduce the rear camber to -0.75 deg (from -1.5 deg -- especially with the wider 348 rear wheels) as a first guess for getting more even tire wear under street driving conditions. But it wouldn't surprise me if your future tire wear shows that you need to go up to -1 deg camber at the front on the next tire set. The toe-in numbers seem reasonable enough, but I'd tend towards the low end of the 2-3 mm spec at the front and the 3-4 mm spec at the rear, if possible -- JMOs.

    Mike and Steve,
Thanks very much for the thoughts! I'll pull the Mondial 3.2 owners manual and see what those settings are and get back to you!

Remember that fitting a larger diameter wheel, will mean that toe measurements made in mm (not angle) will need to be slightly more to retain the specified mm for a stock setting.

ie, 1.5mm toe in on a 390TRX wheel is nearer 2mm on a 17" wheel, while having identical angles.

We're only talking small amounts here, but it's easy to forget.

If making mechanical checks for toe (using string or "Dunlop" type equipment), this must be catered for, but many laser/optical systems actually read in angles then display in a converted mm based on an industry std theoretical wheel/tyre diameter.

To help visualise this better... 2mm toe on a Go Kart is huge, yet 2mm on a truck is nothing... Setting both to 15' of a degree though would be ok.

    Phil,
Good points to remember, thanks! The 348 wheels have lower profile tires than the TRX, and the diameter of the wheels ends up being quite close even though the wheels are larger.

Interesting food for thought....here is some information. I looked up the alignment specs for the QV and the 3.2. Notice that the 3.2 owners manual lists alignment specs for both TRX and 16" wheels...and look how different they are from the alignment specs for the QV in front.

    Thoughts?

Now I know why. The Mondial QV used the same width TRX wheels front and rear, while the 3.2 has narrower ones in the front.
