Well I pick up my 1st F-car a 77 308 on Tuesday & ready for advice on all sorts of things such as:
    1) Jacking points & will a floor jack even fit under car?
    2) Will it go over speed bumps & up ramps w/out scraping?
    3) How long to warm it up when cold & warm?
    4) Oil choices? Synthetics?
    5) K & N air Filter?
    6) Driving my wife crazy speaking poor Italian & could use a few more phrases
    7) Anything else u can think of
    8) Where can I buy gold chains & hairy chest toupee ;-)
    Thanks

I can give thoughts on a couple:

    2) I can't recall my car ('78 308) ever bottoming on a speed bump...

    3) On a cold start, I take it easy (< 4000 rpm) until the oil temp reaches at least the first mark...

    5) I had a K&N - noticed no difference in this application...

    6) Give your car an Italian girl's name and really make her jealous...

    8) Gold chains and such are for the Corvette guys... :)

Little suggestions I like are using Red Line Water Wetter in the coolant, and Sea Foam in the tank from time to time. Consider buying some racing shoes as the pedals are kinda cramped if you have a large foot.

Well I pick up my 1st F-car a 77 308 on Tuesday & ready for advice on all sorts of things such as:
    1) Jacking points & will a floor jack even fit under car? I used a floor jack under the rear crossmember . Some floor jacks are lower than others

    2) Will it go over speed bumps & up ramps w/out scraping?Depends on how high the speed bump is. Same for the incline of the ramp

    3) How long to warm it up when cold & warm? 10 - 15 minutes ought to do it

    4) Oil choices? Synthetics?Oil experts chime in here

    5) K & N air Filter?
    YES

    6) Driving my wife crazy speaking poor Italian & could use a few more phrases

Buy a Berlita course on tape

    7) Anything else u can think of Get AAA

    8) Where can I buy gold chains & hairy chest toupee ;-) Sell the Ferrari and go get a Lamborghini

    Thanks

    1. jacking points...frame rails in rear. Floor jack OK as long as low saddle.
If not may have to tip car w/ OEM or side jack and place floor jack underneath. I have a napa low saddle jack( $175) that works perfectly (same that my dealer uses)
Front jack points at A arms.
    2. Speed bumps usually OK watch dips in driveway entries or high lip
    driveways.
    3. Warm up..depends on ambient temp. Some folks block oil cooler in cold weather to expedite warm up. I have synthetic in gearbox and it helps..No synthetic for engine..olderstyle oil seals will drip it out rather abruptly. Can not advise . I use Castrol 20w/50-still drips a little even w/ new cam seals.
    4. K and N....NOOOOOO....
    5. gimma yo-a credit card-o
    6. Gold chains and chest hair-pieces...fuggetabooutdit-Jeans and T shirts
    for car guys.

Enjoy...they are fun cars. I have owned mine since 1981.

I stick with regular oil. The synthetic leaks.

Don't get on the gas until your oil temp gauge moves.

K&N Double NOOO. Much research on this available. AFE is good if you want an oiled filter - flows good and doesn't let all the crap thru like some others. Don't know if AFE has an application for your car but it's easy enought to check. Google

Many others (and I :()used the K&N only to find fine coating of contamination on inside of turbo intake housing - aaaargh. Oil analysis on mine didn't show excess silica so guess I caught it in time.

Anyone interested in more on the subject of intake air filtration might check out TurboDieselRegister (Ram/Cummins site) http://www.turbodieselregister.com/forums/index.php?
Do a search and you'll turn up more info on air filtration than you have time to read.

Bottom line: AFE or stock (Fleetguard flows good, just change it often). All motors are just big air pumps and Cummins 5.9 B motor sucks some serious air when you get happy with the right pedal so intake air is a big deal to CTD afficianados.

Moderator delete will be understood if less than positive reports about mfrs products are verboten here.

i really really like the Baldwin oil filter, and the individual k&n filter set up Pierce Manifolds sells. i have all the stock stuff in a box, if / when the car sells. i love the sound of the Ansa with the open air cleaners, and the extra room you gain from the !@@##$%^ stock air box bieng off. castrol 20w50 here also. have fun!

If you get rid of the air box you lose the cold air intake though, right?

Varied opinions are welcome on FChat, even when they're negative. But recognize that there are a lot of people who, in contrast to your opinion, FAVOR the filters from K&N.

My understanding of the oiled turbo situation (as discussed on various diesel forums) is that it may be due to over oiling the filters during cleaning. I saw one thread where one individual felt this was the problem (On a Cummins) and he himself had no problems. He had felt that "a little goes a long way." Again, like PTFE's, Synthetic oils and other products, there are many opinions.....

Over oiling happens, no doubt. Filter testing is usually done with new filters, AFAIK.

It is a myth that synthetic oil leaks. There are a lot of people here using synthetic in their 308's. Nuvolari and I both use synthetic in our '77 GTBs.

    I'm using Castrol 5w-50 Syntec.

Sorry, this isn't the thread for it. Do an archive search or start a new thread in Technical.

Running Mobil 1 0W-40 with no leaks or any adverse results. In fact the Mobil 1 is worlds better than dino oil. Lots of threads on the subject in the archives.

    Congrats!

    Nice car!

I use the individiual K&N filters (the sound is heavenly) with a 5" air hose plumbed in to bring cooler air from the factory intake to the carbs (acknowleging this is inferior to the factory cool air intake).

I use Baldwin filters and Castrol 5W-50 synthetic.

I have a deep spoiler and scrape it sometimes. But I use the Ferrari like a car and not a rolling show piece.

I agree with the earlier advice not to get on it until the oil temp needle has moved (depending on the temps, this may take a few minutes).

I would also advise you to make sure that both rad fans are coming on... one of mine wasn't and this was traced to a melted connection in a perfect-looking fuse block. (Had already ordered the aftermarket fuse boxes that an F-Chat memeber is selling, but honestly didn't think I needed them... now realizing I was wrong!)

Get a battery tender for the winter when you may not drive her for more than once a month.

Check the oil after 5 to 8 Minutes as it needs to drain down from the cooler. Otherwise you may add too much oil.

Get a micro firber cloth for washing her.

Most of all enjoy your new remarkable ride.

    She is beautiful !!!
