I currently have an awesome 1990 348ts, red/black, 39,7XX miles. However...I have the opportunity to "trade up" to a 1991 of the exact same color, with only 31,000 miles. The difference would be roughly an extra $3K, and the 1991 would have a fresh 30K service, whereas mine is 3 years into the most recent 30K service. Is it worth the "trade" or am I being stupid?
Tough call! If your car is trouble free...then you may trade for a car that has troubles. Add a few other things into the mix. If the newer car has had say...a new clutch (with all the goodies refreshed ie throut bearing), water pump, brakes, valve adjustment..blah, blah, blah all refreshed and your satisfied that the car has no issues...then your doing pretty well for 3K....IMHO
It darn sure will when I'm done with it. I'm not parting with your 355 wheels, Scott. No way, no how. Scott, I vacationed on Coronado Island last week. All I can say is, if you live near the water, you are ONE RICH DUDE. Did you get your 355 back on the road?
Good thing! Your car looks way too cool with the wheels. Hope to get my car back by the end of the week. I've really missed her! BTW: I'm in the poor part of California. We poor folks live in Central California. Prices here are nothing like Coronado. I think it's crazy here but down in So. Cal., folks need a shrink because they really are nuts.
Husker: All things being equal that sounds like a good deal for you. I'm trying to imagine it from the sellers point of view though, why would someone want an older model with more miles and less recent service just so they can put $3000 in their pocket? I was in California last week on holiday too....Monterey/Carmel area. I did Hwy 1 to Hearst Castle...that road alone is enough to make me want to move there.
Personally, not sure what the upside is with one year and 9,000 miles, especially if you've dealt with the usual 348 fiddles on yours already. With mine while I've had some issues I know I've dealt with them so wouldn't want to turn around and take on a new mystery unless it was a big step up (say an F40). My $0.02. Cheers Kevin
I was on the Island that is not an island last week as well. Went to S.D. car museum to get out of rain. A few f-cars & a couple of Lambos.
I wouldn't, because there will be taxes and whatnot at the transfer, and more importantly you know your own car and things you've done. I'd put the $3k into parts or service, or even better, a CARBON FIBER package for your interior. BTW, I'm still looking into the taillight conversion. We *might* be announcing some big things for 348s soon.
I would keep your 90ts without a doubt. I'm guessing that it's a well sorted car............who knows about the 91. Ryalex is right as well, your gonna have approx. 3k in tax etc. etc.
You pay taxes on the difference of not th sales price so if there is a $3000.00 difference in price at a 5% sales taxe you owe $150.00 Im not sure of the sales taxes where you are but they cant be more than 6-7%
I'm a dealer, so there's no sales tax. I'm not "trading" my current car in, but I will be selling it. Looks like the actual difference will be $1500 to $2000. For a year newer 348, 8K less miles, and a brand new 30K service, it's worth it. I'm going for it. Wish me luck!
You've decided already, eh? I was going to say don't do it. If you're going to trade up, trade up to a 1994 348. The 1994 cars have a modified and improved engine and all sorts of other little tweaks that previous model-year 348s do not have. I'm sure you know about these. I know that Ferrari of Atlanta has had a 1994 tb Challenge car up for sale forever. It looks like it's still available; I wonder why it hasn't sold after all this time. Anyway, there is that one, and I've seen 1994 ts and tb Challenge cars pop up every now and then. PS I would agree with what someone wrote earlier--if you're car is pretty much trouble-free, it might be worth it to keep the car and spend the extra money on servicing your car because you'd probably shoot yourself if the car you bought turned out to have problems! These 348s are very finicky Anyway, good luck, and I hope I'm not ginxing you
