Here is a story I hope you all will enjoy. One day, not to long ago ... maybe it was, ... it seems like just yesterday, I was offered a ride in a F40. This was after the owner showed his gorgeous car. First he showed me the dual master cylinders for his brakes in the carbon fiber tub, then the glorious, engine, exhaust and massive rear tires. Then those words I wasl lucky enough to hear, "Let's go!".... I almost wet myself. He buttons up the car, backs out of the driveway and lets the car warm up a bit. Then he invites me in. "Oh what a feeling!" I got in and then tried to put the racing harness on, but it was pulled way to tight. I could hardly figure out how to loosen it, so I said something like, never mind the belt. The owner said, "NO, you will need the harness!" Oh boy!. So I struggle for a few minutes and finally his friend comes over and shows me what to do and then pulls the belts tight. Next the driver says "Are you ready?", I was not expecting much, but only because I did not know what the F40 is capable of. I think to myself, I still have my little digital camera, I will take a picture of myself in here. So I put my arm out to get a good self photo, and simultaneously all hell breaks loose, I hear the scream of the engine, tires squealing, the camera comes flying against my eye, my head slams to the back of the seat and we are off! I remember thinking we were out of control because the car started to fish tail, but the driver got hold of it and gave me the ride of my life. Just when I thought it could not get any better, he demonstrated the brakes! I knew why he made a big deal about the harness. All in all it was a thrill I will never forget. I did manage to get a partial photo of myself in the F40. Guys I was with said I did not stop grinning that entire day! I was so thrilled, shocked, happy, etc... that I never even got the owner's name. --tony Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Far better than the old "So, I was staring at this Ferrari and I walked into a pole." That's a beautiful F40.
Great story! I certainly wouldn't mind getting a black eye, if I got a ride in an F40 at the same time!
Very cool story, thanks for telling us about it, closest I have ever been to an F40 was seeing on virtually ride over my foot... The owners classical comment when I was talking to him about the car "its a fantastic car, every man should have one"...if only...
Very cool. That is far better than my "I cracked my rib by walking into a parking meter while looking at a girl in a bikini" story.
Great story!!! I rear ended a car once because i was trying to get a girls number driving next to me! -jt
Great story, and kudos to the owner for sharing the experience like he did! That's one way future f-car owners are made!
Sorry I wish I could describe it, think of a turbine noise close by. I think a fitting description is all hell broke loose. I was shoved in my seat, the camera hit me in the eye, the car was shaking, engine and rear wheels screaming, it was sensory over load. I wish someone would have video taped it for us. --tony
Well, you've joined the club of People who have been Conked by Cameras in Exotic Vehicles. (Reference: Alan Bean, Apollo 12.)
Awesome story ... and glad it was as full on as that ... keeps the dream alive for this poster!. Sorry to be a dampener, but there is no carbon tub in a F40, they are still a steel space frame reinforced with carbon and kevlar, etc. Still the best Ferrari supercar IMO! Pete
Great story and great car. This reminds me of my "Pontiac Bonneville That Gave Me A Black Eye" story. LOL I was in my friends 1993 Bonneville and I grabbed the plastic handle that was mounted on the ceiling and it broke off as I looked up it came down into my eye and I had a black eye for a week.
Your comments were most welcome, but I have to tell you as much fun as you had, I enjoy giving rides even more! I think we laid down down about 100' of rubber when we took off! Thanks again Tony, I enjoyed sharing my F40 with you...
