Tillman, can you briefly describe the mod you're doing? I heard you talking about it once, but I didn't catch it.
See http://www.mlcpartners.com/ferrari/308GTSB/ Only difference is that Jano came up with a bit better looking way to do the lower channel on the louver. The louver's not properly finished/fitted in my photos, so ignore the rubber gaskets and such for now.
GTS has a large frame member running across the bottom of the car (outside of floor plan under each door). Not terribly obvious but if you own a GTB you notice it immediately in a GTS. This is to make up for the loss of rigidity in a convertible. There may be other differences but that one stood out the most for me.
Wow,you can see the water stains on the fabric even better now. j/k Are you going to get the louvers powder coated?
Yeah, I noticed. Grumble. One thing always leads to another..... Can you powder coat plastic? I didn't think so. They are just going to be repainted semi-gloss black like the stock pieces.
The pic had me fooled too I guess. I thought the frame and louvers were metal. Do the window, frame, and louvers make up one unit? Edit: NM, I finally got a perspective on the 3rd pic
These are stock plastic GTS louver sets, with some louvers removed. There is an L-shaped aluminum piece that has been added to the lower edge to firm up the part and to hide the rubber gasket at the edge of the GTS rear windows. There's still much work to be done to them to get them clean and straight. The targa is also going to be sanded smooth and painted like Jim's for that GTB look.
So if I'm viewing that correctly, you are cutting back the vented fastback area? Looks cool man. Congrats for modding your Ferrari, a big no-no in the Ferrari world. Oh Tillman, you are such a Pantera guy, I can tell, hehe. Come join the mutts! haha
Yes. Here's 2 images for perspective. The first is the stock car, the second is a rough photochop that shows where I'm headed. In real life 360 wheels aren't quite that large on the 328 Nope, I am never again going to own a Ford product. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
don't take this the wrong way as you can't hear my tone, but why do guys with GTS's want to put GTB louvers on them and paint the tops body color? I can sort of get the body color top as it stands out if all black and your car isn't a dark color. I don't get the GTB louvers though.
also I think the 328's had the last perfect wheel by ferrari before they got the long narrow spokes so I'm against getting rid of the stock wheels!!!!
It's hard to see in photos but in real life the GTB has a much more flowing roofline and windowline. The GTS roof color disrupts that line, but even worse is the hard vertical of the GTS louvers behind the door. By cutting louvers, the eye flows across the window line better. In addition, a little more blind spot visibility helps too To each their own. With the exception of the roof sanding/painting, none of the changes are irreversible. I still have the stock louver sets.
Jim S, find a pic of a GTB and GTS in the same color of the same year. The GTB lines flow MUCH more smoothly and the car looks infinitely better. The only advantage to the GTS is the targa top, it has nothing to do with looks. I'll be doing louvers too now that our man is perfecting the process.
Well, since Ford never made the Pantera, that's good. Only the engines. I understand though, too much horsepower to handle, hehe.
Well, the top still comes off.... Matt, if there was a Pantera with Mopar power then I might consider one.
Seems as though would just involve motor mounts and an adapter plate and you could run just about any ol' american iron! Easier said than done...
I like the satin finish of those 360 wheels as opposed to the polished look of the 360 wheels in your Pchop. They look meatier, and less "bling."
