The Daytona International Speedway is offering Ferrari & Maserati owners an opportunity to participate in a "club" day on Friday, February 4th, preceeding the 24 Hours Of Daytona. Information I have states that "2005 Milestones Event" begins at 10:30 am, with a briefing on the road course conducted by Murray Smith and may be accompanied by former champions such as Brian Redman, Bobby Rahal, Stirling Moss and/or Derek Bell. This will be followed by two pace car-led laps around the track, then a catered lunch, followed by more discussion by the panelists, Q & A. The schedule shows the program wrapping up by 2:30 pm, however, you will be able to stay and watch qualifying and some support races, and pit access. The speedway is charging $65.00 for the day. A 4-day ticket that includes the Friday program is $145.00.

Because of a, from what I've been told, a Corvette club incident a few years ago and the busy test schedule of the speedway, the track management has not been too receptive of a formal track weekend with touring and high-speed lapping, typical of say, a FCA track weekend. Who knows, with a strong turnout and a little lobbying of the right people, it might become a reality sometime down the road. I'll post more details as they are made available to me. This is open to FCA & FOC members and non-affiliated owners. Stay tuned for more info.

Ferrari and the Daytona track have had a long, storied history. A strong turnout by F-Chatters and the various Ferrari-related clubs can help in laying groundwork for a future track day. Help make it happen!!

    Eric, Greg,

Other F-Chatters coming to Florida for the race should consider it! $65 per person. Though not sure if the speedway will roll the cost into the 2-day race ticket or not.

I'm already signed up! Looking forward to even a couple of parade laps of the big banked corners. Should be a blast.

Wow! Now thats what I call a great weekend. I think the banks before the strait would be a trip to experience at any speed. Wish I could be there. If you run into Paul Newman, say "Hi" for me.

I got to do a couple "paced" laps at Watkins Glen a few years ago for $15.00... Best $15 I'd ever spent! Man was it fun...I can only imagine Daytona at (at least reasonable) speed i.e., 85+. Wait - will the cars even stick to the banks at much less than that?

I think I'll come Friday AM. Just walked in the door from a trip to Virginia to see my granddaughter (oh yea, her mom-my daughter, and her father too). Been without web access since Friday PM. I gotta double check that taking off Friday won't be a problem. Then I'll call the speedway.

I guess laps around Daytona in the 400i will be a bit different than the last time I did it in my IMSA GTO Vette. Back then they didn't use the chicane, it was just for the 2 wheelers! Maybe I can hitch a ride with someone that has something more interesting (any F40s going?).

    Kevin,

I'd bring the 308 except for it's in the middle of a 15K service in my garage. I was hoping to have it complete, but there are a couple of hoses that I still haven't received yet and a section of the exhaust system that needs to be replaced.

I'll catch up with you Friday morning. PM me you mobile number and I'll call you.

    - Greg
