Sorry ahead of time for this beggar post.

I just had a top to bottom engine rebuild on my 355 at 22,000 miles, due to a defective connecting rod bearing and deteriorating valve guides. FNA and the dealership that worked on the car wouldn't help out, so I got stuck with the $26k bill. Less than 300 miles on the rebuilt engine and the passenger side exhaust header cracked. AHHHHHhhhhh!!!

I've already had each side replaced a few years ago - I hear the third time's a charm. I'll look to QV, Tubi or a new header from FNA, but these are costly options.

Can anyone help out with a good price on an OEM passenger-side header?
    Any help greatly appreciated!
    David

Call Norwood, one of the sponsors, and talk to Mike about sending your old headers to England for the rebuild. Will save considerable $.

Do the QV. They seem to work the best. Made of thicker material, seem to last longer. Which generation of cats do you have? If the early style, that could be the cause.

Goodness - I know it's been covered a thousand times in the past, and my "say so" doesn't make any difference, but this 355 header deal is just an absolute disgrace! It's bad enough to put defective headers on the car in the first place, but to then sell the poor customer another defective header is beyond belief! I'm so glad the 348 headers apparently don't have this problem.

I remember when I worked at a Lancia dealership in Seattle in the late Seventies, and we had a whole stack of broken exhaust manifolds from Betas that had been replaced under warranty - probably 50 or 60 of them - we had to keep them until the factory rep OK'd tossing them out. What a joke!

Speaking from experience, putting on another Ferrari manifold is just delaying judgment day. What you save by getting another used manifold will be lost when you have to replace it again. Bite the bullet and get a QV now IMHO.

Ferrari North America WAS warrantying the exhaust headers for customers up until some time last year, but my car "is too old" (or so I was told by FNA) to warranty anything at this point.

Funny thing is that both headers have already been replaced with Ferrari updated parts. I thought this would do it, but unfortunately not.

I'm thinking Tubi at this point, bc they warranty their products. If I get one from QV, what's to say it won't crack again in a different place?

QVs work better, more metal. Start a thread, ask those that put them on. I hven't heard of one cracking yet.

My understanding is the only thing "updated" on the later headers where the air injection tubes mounted on the header....not the header itself.

OK, new question: QV rebuilds or Tubi headers?

I think Tubis are warrantied for life, are QVs?

There are differences between the '95 and the '98 manifolds - they are not interchangeable. Also you will have limited success if you replace the damaged one with another OEM manifold. I just had mine repaired (both sides) for $2000 at QV London. Suggest you do the same if you are keeping the car. See the burn through I had on mine with 18K miles.

WOW, thats pretty bad. I don't know about how bad mine is, but the insulation material is coming out. I'm thinking to pull off both sides and send both of them even though the driver side header is still good.

I'll call QV tomorrow if I don't hear from abarthracer.

Is that a primary header tube? If so it is a wonder your car didn't burn to the ground with that spewing fire into the engine compartment (via the heat shield).

Is there any relationship between aftermarket exhaust systems and cracked headers?

If you replaced with new factory ones a few years ago they are covered ,,no matter how old your car is . When I went through this a few months ago Ferrari of New England was very certian of this ,"each new factory header is covered for 7 years, call them and speek to mark in parts. I went with tubi's the factory ones will not last and I don't want my car heald up every few years putting on new factory ones evan if they are covered.

Unfortunately, the replacements they give you are NOT covered for 7 years. Maybe the dealership will cover it for you, but FNA will not. I contacted FNA and they assured me that 355s are too old at this point and that the Headers a not warrantied, UNLESS it specifically says so in your warranty book - if not, then it doesn't matter what they've told you.

as my dealer explained it the car IS too old to be covered but the new header is covered aand that is what the new warantie is on not the car ,
I don't think this something that the dealer was going to do on his own but not sure call ferrari of new eangland ask for mark in parts and see what he says

After many many calls to dealers and FNA, this is what I found:
Regardless of how old the car or header is or when it was put on, Ferrari does not warranty 355 headers anymore. The exhaust header is NOT considered part of the emissions system so warranty don't apply (told to me from dealers and FNA).

Factory headers for the 355 will burn through if you use your car hard, no matter what year you have. When the burn through, DO NOT replace them with factory exhaust headers.

As many Fchatters have suggested, I purchased the replacements from QV London and this should fix the problem:

    QV London
    Tel: +44 (0)1344 622011
    http://www.hamletcg.co.uk/qv/qvimenu.htm
Options: send them yours for repair or buy theirs and send yours later
    Delivery: 7-10 days
Cost: £600.00 (includes FedEx shipping to US)

Thanks to all Fchatters who responded with advice!
