OK, this is of such little consequence that I hesitate to ask, but does the glove box light have some sort of lens or diffuser mounted in it? Mine looks like it's incomplete, you can see the bare bulb in there, and the part from which the light is emitted (plastic cylinder with the exterior spline) looks like it's designed to hold an optical component. Just something that's been in the back of my mind since I first noticed it. I don't have another Mondial to compare it with... must work on that problem as well.

Hi Charles, I have the same thing. My bulb is busted and had been trying to figure out how to remove/replace the bulb. Please post if you were able to replace the light bulb. Thanks

From what I remember, your light looks exactly like mine but will check that again for you when I get home. It reminds me of the airplane cabin air/light setup ;)

Al: My lamp works, I was just unsure if the assembly was complete, as it seems to have provision for a lens or diffuser but there is none there. When you look in the bore from which the light is emitted, you see the lamp directly in there, but the inside of the bore looks as if it's designed to hold some additional optics. If I need to service it in future I'll report on the subject.

Dirk, Mike: OK, thanks for the feedback. I'm going to assume this is the way it left the factory.

Thanks for the photo Mike, definitely helps and confirms it. My suspicion is that this lamp housing might optionally fit some kind of optics in there, but doesn't in Ferrari's case. It looks like there's some kind of spring clip in mine, which made me think maybe it once held something.

OK, enough dwelling on minutiae ... thanks again.

Guys being in the glovebox area, is there a emergency cable for it if the solenoid stop working? I'm just starting to learn my car.

Claude: I'm no expert, but I don't think there is an emergency cable for opening the glovebox. I try not to keep anything important in there.

I can't find any cable for a quick release for the glove box.
I only know of the trunk & gas lid with quick release cables. Not sure if from bonnet or engine bay has any cables.

But, you do need the key in and in the start position, then click on the folder button to release the glove box lid. Hope this helps.

Thanks guys, it's just that the fuel filler door solenoid is not working but at least there is a cable and I was wondering if the glove box had one too. BTW my light look the same as yours too but doesn't seem to work. Another thing to check.

No lens on mine. The glove box bulb is accessible from the back, via below the dash. It helps to have rubber joints. The light only works with the ignition on.
All three bonnets and the fuel filler have an emergency release cable, the glove box doesn't.

My switches are all working but,
where are the cables for the front bonnet and engine lid bonnet located?

I only know of a cable to the left rear seat for the trunk release. And a cable in the engine bay left side for gas filler lid release.

Geez, just checked the price for the fuel door solenoid, Almost as much as the 3 lids ones. It's the same for the glove box. I haven't check anything yet, maybe just the switch or a connector. Hopefully!

Mine started sticking when the switch stuck in the "on" position and kept delivering electricity to it. If your switch and wires are OK, take it out and fix it :)

Take away the engine bay side covers on the left hand chassis side.
    Open the fuel door
Tape a string to the pin
Release the nut and let the solenoidt slide down the buttress
Unplug the wires and release the pull cable... try not to drop the nut
    Dremel open the front insert
Pull the assembly out and lay it out in the correct order
Photograph every step and part orientation - might help later
Clean it all up and check where the problem is
On mine, the plastic support for the coil had partially molten onto the pin causing high drag
I used the correct size drill bit to clean up the molten bits
Reassemble everything (I used a light coat of oil in the sliding parts)
Fit the insert into the housing with a center punch
(my housing and insert were marked with 1,2,3 and 4 on both parts, I put them together the same way even though all looks symmetrical)
Reattach the pull wires and test
Reattach the pull cable (lubricate it) and string.
Pull it in GENTLY and refit the nut

I pulled in 3 more strings in case i loose one...

Thanks a lot afterburner! You should make a thread about that if it's not already done. It is very helpfull. Now that I see how it is built I will fix it no matter what is the problem. Coil can be rewired if toasted.

My glove box didn't work for ages... it turned out the solenoid pin was sticking in the coil. After spraying some contact cleaner into the assembly, it came back to life. Just something easy to try...

    +1

I've given up hope on my fuel door ever working... but this sounds totally doable.

I'll make a thread if I get good results. If not, I'm just going to cower in shame.

Hi everyone, i too have the dreaded glovebox not opening issue. I saw in this thread that contact cleaner was sprayed onto the solenoid contact pin. How do you get to the contact pin and where is it please? Maybe there will be treasure or an old sock inside!!!

Also i was wondering if its the switch in the black centre consul panel that needs cleaning. How do you remove this panel?

    Thanks.

In theory you should be able to slide your hand under the dash behind the glovebox and on top of it pull the pin to open the lid but I don't know if this is possible.
