Below you’ll find some good info for new owners of 308’s and 328’s. After 2+ years of ownership and 7 years on the boards I have found that these items below are the most common product choices for maintaining your car.

If I could give one recommendation to a new owner it would be to change as many fuel and coolant lines as you can as soon as you can.

    Oil
Use the oil of your choice but go lighter weight if your live in a cold or cool environment. Not many people choose to run synthetics and many use good old Castrol GTX 20W50.

    ***Add ZDDP!***

ZDDP-What is it and why do I need it?

After 70+ years of trouble-free, metal-metal anti-wear protection, the E.P.A. is forcing ZDDP (Zinc Dialkyl Dithio Phosphate, containing both Zinc and Phosphorus) from domestic motor oil. If your engine was designed prior to 1996, your cam and flat lifters (which is the design in the 3X8 engine) require ZDDP in your motor oil to protect the sliding metal-to-metal cam lifter interface to avoid premature wear.

    Oil filter
    Baldwin B253
NO FRAM-Poor internal design and can fail

    Coolant
50/50 coolant to water. The good old green stuff is fine.

    Gear oil
Redline Lightweight shockproof or 75W90 NS - or Royal Purple brand

    Spark plugs
NGK Iridium work well on both carbed and injected cars
    The 308/308QV engines use a 14mm spark plug (BPR6EIX/BPR7EIX)
The 3.2 liter engines use a 12mm spark plug (DR8EIX)

    Fuel lines
R9 or greater rating to handle ethanol mixed fuels. Scuderia Rampante (Dave Helms on Fchat) make the best fuel and coolant hose out there (in kit form)

    Fuel filter
go to Rock Auto to find your replacement Fram or Bosch filter by year and model

    Air filter
    K&N

    Belts and bearings
Hill Engineering bearings and Dayco belts are the preferred set up by many

    Brake pads and discs
EBC red stuff pads are popular
Discs can be found at superformance.co.uk

    Tires
    Personal preference

    Cleaning aluminum and other parts
use Simple Green aircraft cleaner available on Amazon

    Injected car terms to know
AAV- stands for auxiliary air valve
WUR- stands for warm up regulator

Things to buy if you are a DIY'er
    multimeter
torque wrench that has Nm and Ft lbs.
    low profile jack
metric wrenches in all shapes and sizes (inteference wrenches)
borescope or little camera (a nice to have)
fire extinguisher (if you did or did not change your fuel lines it's a must)
Extra belts and hoses too keep in the boot
Back to Black from Mothers polish
several good flashlights that are magnetic, can clip on to something or can stand on their own
a rolling tool chest or cart (a nice to have)

You are aware of the Parts Crossreference thread and other sticky threads at the top of the forum, right?

Of course. I have 2 stickies up there. This thread is for new owners who may not want to pour over years of discussions on these topics. I wish I had a thread like this day one when I got my car. If I did I'd know about Dave Helms hoses, which oil filter to buy and the best plugs for my car.

Couple of comments (of course, this may start some debates, but who cares):

Coolant: I agree 50/50 mix, green stuff is fine. But I always add a bottle of Red Line Water Wetter. Great stuff. Helps keep the engine running nice and steady where it should be.

Gear oil: Red Line 75W90NS is great stuff. But I've always added one quart of Red Line 75W90 hypoid modified gear oil along with the 75W90NS. The 75W90NS is fine for the transmission, but you do need some of the 75W90 for the hypoid modifiers for the limited slip in the differential, otherwise you may find that the differential "graunches" on you.

Engine oil: I really like the Castrol GTX 20W50. I use it in my old Jaguar and Ferrari. But they recently came out with a "high mileage" version of this oil, and I put it in the Jag XKE. I like it so far. Might try it in the Ferrari next time around.

I'm a fan too. Good oil pressure on warm up and hangs where it should be

High recommend my experience with spark plugs BERU UX79. Is not the cheapest one, but give very intensive spark with four points.
I use it in all my V8 cars.
You can imediately feel the different in the lower rpms as more torque.

    Test it.

Valvoline VR1 Racing 20w50 has ZDDP so you don't have to add it!

Yes. Most oils sold in the US do not have the proper level of ZDDP needed except for diesel and some racing oils. Modern ferrari engines dont need the addative.

I always add ZDDP Plus to my oil. I would never use oil off of the shelf w/o adding it.

Coming from a new owner thanks for this thread Steve. I'm assuming these part numbers are applicable to my Mondial since it has a 3.2 motor.

Yes but always double check. That plug reference point came from Fastradio who is a great Ferrari tech.

Just an FYI- the Mobil 1 site states that their 0-40w synthetic has higher levels of ZDDP at 1000 PPM phosphorus and 1100 PPM zinc. This is what I have been using, hope it's a good choice!
