I remember attending this show, it used to be held along with Strictly 43rd. Does Strictly 43rd still exist?
The Strictly 43rd club does still exist but their show as it was does not. The Ferrari Expo brings out many of those same people every year including the 43rd club president and many old members. This is not a strictly 43rd show as we allow all scales of hand built models. Tom Tanner/Ferrari Expo 2012-Chicago March 17th 2012
Anyone remember when it was @ The Como Inn?Very dark upstairs room.Met many a serious collector there.I'll be there again this year.Selling .....not buying
Only a little over a month until Ferrari Expo 2012. I will post more model photos in a few days. I have the Alfa 1900 Touring Mille Miglia and 300SL Pan Am 1952 almost done. The GTO is also getting there. These Climax kits take a little longer so the model might only be 90% done for the Expo this year. Shooting for 5-6 models this year. I would love to go, but I have to see if I can find a place to crash over the night. When I count the flight, food etc. It becomes one expensive model show. So I'll try to get a free roof over my head and then the visit will make slightly more sense.
Check this build being done by last years "Best of show" winner. Joe is doing another Porsche, this time a very fine looking 550 Pan Am in 1/43rd scale. Yes everything opens. http://miniwerks.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1004 Tom Tanner/Scale Designs/Ferrari Expo 2012-Chicago March 17th 2012 Image Unavailable, Please Login
A few more that I made from BBR and Starter kits for the Ferrari Expo. Two 550's from the 1954 Pan Am in 1/43rd scale. Tom Tanner/Ferrari Expo 2012-Chicago March 17th 2012 Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Here is a frame from a movie clip showing how I came up with the 550's color last year. All the model companies thought it was silver. Even the restorer of the original car thought it was silver. The restorer even told another modeler friend he didn't know what he was talking about! See you at the EXPO!!! And with cockpit details in place. I like this little 1/43rd Porsche 550 as it's so ugly its cool looking. The paint is also amazing considering it was done in 1954. This Pan am 1954 Monza is one of the best looking Monza's I think. The black really shows of the lines. I will have a test shot of the Fisher Models 500/750 Monza/Mondial 1/24th model on display. He is doing the black Pan Am car. Tom Tanner/Scale Designs/Ferrari Expo 2012-Chicago March 17th 2012 Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Good heavens, especially thinking of that the car in the bottom picture can clearly be seen going left, makes you look twice before you can tell which way the Porsche is going... ...If it were a sixties car, I could swear it's going left also....
Strange but true. This exact car also ran in the 1953 Carrera with a roof and won its class. Profil 24 did it in 1/24th scale along with Project 43 and Starter in 1/43rd. It's new Mexican owner had Porsche remove the roof for the 1954 Carrera as pictured. I hope some one does this version in 1/24th scale soon. I have your 275 GTS kit and it looks great. Your moldings keep getting better and better. Tom Tanner/Ferrari Expo 2012-Chicago March 17th 2012
Only 1 week until Ferrari Expo 2012. More photos coming. We should have a great turnout of people and models again. http://gpma.org/scaledesigns.html My old companies page. The models are no longer available, although I have done 3 Pan Am decals for this show.
