I didn't even know about this until my wife gave me the flyer... http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&cd=1&sqi=2&ved=0CBUQFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Felegantcars.com%2F&ei=ZvWvTI78OpO4sQOIldXbDA&usg=AFQjCNE-L-vqgJ4qHcTHT5lABkmHbg5l9A $100 to display or $20 to spectate...guess I'll park the 308 outside.
I tried to contact them to learn more about it and never heard a word. Has anyone been to this before and can provide any color around this event?
There used to be a concours in SB near UCSB I believe for a number of years, I believe this is a continuation of this(albeit nothing too close to consecutive years). A couple years ago they were supposed to hold this event at the Polo fields but it mysteriously was rescheduled till May then went away. Looking forward to a good show in my backyard, not buying tix till last minute though as iirc they cancelled it last time a week before. Jeff
There was one that was held at SB City College years ago...great location and very laid back and friendly. I think this show fragmented into two different shows and they both ended up dying for a while.
Yeah, details kind of fuzzy, never went as it seemed advertising was very minimal and it always when I was out of town. I even remember a few car show in Montecito but they were spring events I think. Interesting to see what this event ends up being. Jeff
In the early 90's the Kate school use to put one on at the polo fields and it was very well attended. Then is was moved to SB City college. The last one was around 2000 at Glen Annie golf course in Goleta. I heard that the guy that did the Glen Annie show was the one doing this show. I also heard he stiffed most of the companies that he owed money to for the Glen Annie show. It will be interesting to see how it goes
I'd like to check it out, but I'm leaning towards SuperCar Sunday in the SFV on the morning of 10/31 instead. My wife has set a limit on how many car events I can attend in 1 weekend! Otherwise no candy for me Halloween night.
Take her up to SB for the day and stop by the Polo fields for a little while and then have lunch on the pier or Monticito.
I assume the same. There have been Santa Barbara Conocurs d' Elegance since 1978, et least. He's a photo of a silverplated cup which was given to the entrants in 1978. Somewhere I have a few photos of the event. I might go IF I have no family committments...meaning that I probably won't be able to attend :-( Image Unavailable, Please Login
The Concorso D'Italiano is on Saturday starting at 10AM. Sam and anyone else want to meet before hand and make the drive over together? I'm thinking of meeting in Montecito at Jeanine's Bakery around 9AM then leave as a group over to the event. Does anyone know anyone that is displaying? Just curious...
Is the event going on? I don't seem to know of anyone going. No one at the Avila Beach concourse seem to be going.
Finally got hold of someone at the Concours. They expect 70-80 cars for Sunday and less on Saturday. He confessed that this is somewhat of a startup event again after a 10 year hiatus but they're going to really try to build this year after year. The weather doesn't look too hot for Friday and Saturday so I will likely hold off for Sunday so I can put the top down, see more cars and enjoy the day. Offer still stands to meet for breakfast before the show and go to the grounds together.
I was thinking about going Saturday...if no one else is going on Sat, then maybe I'll sit out this year and see how it goes.
I would likely go on Saturday but the weather isn't supposed to cooperate. Right now, they're calling for rain.
I spoke with them today and they said people are starting to chicken out for Saturday, and more are now going to the Sunday event. I'll be there Sunday with a 355 for judging.
