Wow, if I had the money and time that would be fun to work on. I would love to see someone bring her back to life.

I really prefer the GTS myself (thus my own choice in 308 - love the roof out sun shining on me thing), but a 308 of any description is a thing of beauty and the idea of watching the transformation of this used and abused piece of art coming back to life really intrigues me.

FWIK (from what I Know) production car serial numbers progressed in odd numbers...

As such 20393, 20395, 20397, 20399... thus only two cars apart

Body looks straight, the interior looks ok, this could be really fun project: I would drop in a 308QV engine bore out with Carobu kit, carbs. QA1 shocks, brembo brakes, 18" Ferrari wheels, ...Current bid is only 9700.

Having been inspired by reading the full thread, and having a copy of the Oct 85 Road & Track article about the original conversion, I would do a V-12 install.

So amazing.... one brother is successful and leads a charmed life, the other brother
ends up in the gutter. I always wonder what the stories behind a car like this are...
how it made it to this stage. Surely didn't happen all at once - it was probably a
    long slow progression of neglect.

Here's the deal, my #20405 is a very early steel car, 76steel has me beat by a few numbers.

And this car is among the same batch.....

So as a legal NON CAT car it's definately a candidate for restoration, but until the numbers 'make sen$e" it's far more likely this "almost complete" car will be chopped to bits....

Rebuilding it stock would take a lot of money, rebuilding it as 'anything else' would take even more......thanks for bringing the pics over, Will!

Not so much.......it's like the other steel Euro car, it broke, and fell into the hands of underfinanced idiots......how the hell do you 'LOSE" your motor and transmission?
Although there are plenty of shady mechanics out there that would 'take it to fix" and maybe never bring it back.....that's the kind of set back that 'kills' these cars...

I lost a pair of distributors once.....$1,400 for new ones.

Whats the saying...?? (spelling) "chapmange taste on a beer budget"

It's no different than anything else in life. Ther are people who can "buy" things, but cant maintain them...and as all of us know maintianing costs a lot more than just buying

I'm sure there is more than a few overexhuberant wipe outs that left good running gear that could benefit this swayback.
If someone let it go this far, this probably isn't the real heartache of the story behind it. No fire, car looks straight, looking for the transplant just takes time. Check the insurance companies for some leftover total.

I was interested in building a dino 246 GT out of carbon/kevlar FRP (even drew the cross sections, etc for building the buck. see MATLAB representation). I was thinking of powering with a fuel cell system. That could be done with this 308.

Depends on how you look at it, too much for a roller, but cheap enough for a handy pile of parts!!!

Cavallino has a High Number of $55k for early steel cars, now.

I guess I should become the "Tom S. of the 308s".....LOL!
