Hi all, Last week I went to see the Bugatti exhibition in Brussels. Very nice collection there, including 4 Veyrons, EB110, and other expensive wannehaves. But I was also very pleased to see this beauty! I'm guessing it's a Ferrari 250 GT BOANO. Rare species? Image Unavailable, Please Login
0659GT. One of 123 (total production of PF/Boano/Ellena-production) or 65 (Low roof production series) depending what you count in. Best wishes, Kare
Ough god that is just beautiful! Look at how he used nature to develop the 'Post & Beam' truss supporting the roof; pretty cool. {:-O> Reason for response is that is TRULY a dream find to me, and would love to hear it's story. Does anyone know it? For me (Being 44) I grew up fixing those, yet didn't thoroughly appreciate [That Vintage] 'till the later years....(Some of the Fiat years - me as the malcontentwrenchy.) I shiver (In a good way) to know it will still be appreciated and enjoyed 20 years from now.
The car was sold new in spring 1957 through Swaters to a belgian owner and ran eight years before being stored since 1964 in Sint-Martens Latem (B). It was sold by the same owner in november 1989 to Ghislain Mahy who restored it in early 90's and showed the car since in Autoworld museum in Belgium. The car in the background is a 1948 Alfa Romeo 2500 convertible... See Auto Passion number 92 of may 1994 for the whole story and pics...
Some parts of the car were missing and as, it was stored since 1964, of course it was not running, so I'm afraid the restoration seemed to be inevitable...
Aardy, Sorry, but it was a little bit of American humor that I was trying to display. Sounded better than it read! Mark
Yes, for sure you know Europeans are a little bit sensitive about restoration... If I had bought the car, not sure I would have restored it...
I love the Buano. I had the pleasure of going to Meadowbrook with my colleagues who brough this one in 2003. Later it sold to Symbolic if I am not mistaken then....??? Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Strang things happen!! I recently sold a house in Ghent (Belgium) and guess who bought it!! YES, the owner of this 250 Boano!! The man is Ivan Mahy, very charming man, the biggest carcollector in Belgium, and I'm guessing in the world. He only has 1 Ferrari. This 250 GT Boano, and he told me everything about it. He said it was offered to him by the son (or daughter) of an old architect somewhere near Ghent. It took a day to get the cars out of the shed, they even dismanteled the roof. And he didn't knew it was a Boano. He didn't tell me what he paid for it, but his policy is that they don't pay (alot of) money for there barnfinds. They just restore them for saving them and putting them in there museums (!) Ivan then gave me his card and we're gonna do some barn searching tomorrow already! A small world Belgium is! You "found" it? This is 0693 GT owned since 1996 by Swiss car dealer Konrad Lutziger. Can regularly be seen at events in Switzerland. Marcel Massini
If you like Boanos, feast your eyes in this one. One of the most perfect ones I have seen in a long time. L.A. Concours, 2009. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
