I was wonder what the thoughts were on the e92 M3 coupe as a daily driver. With the adjustible suspensioin, steering response, and shifting speed the car be customized to different driving situations. With a 8400rpm screaming engine and perfect weight distribution the car can be a fun twisty road weekend car and also be a comfy commuter car...Low mileage 08-09s can be had in the $50k range. What are your thoughts??? Any other alternatives you guys can think of??

I just picked up a low mileage 08 and I use it as my daily driver (appox 60 miles/day).

    No problems at all.

I have used an e36 M3(~70k miles) e39 M5(~117k miles) and e60 M5(`60k miles) as daily drivers. The only real problem is that they all ate tires and the e60 M5 got horrible gas mileage...

A good alternative that I have also thought of....with m3 used prices dropping the price difference ahs decreased and having a 8500rpm screaming v8 is a ferrari like advantage in the m3....

Why not. As long as you don't mind the poor fuel mileage, but you may want a set of snow tires for the winter.

Very true about the poor gas mileage, 20mph highway at best and it has a small fuel gauge also...snow tires would be a must for the winter but I do have a beater suv for bad weather__ having a snow car that you dont care about banging up is great for piece of mind in crappy weather....

BMW's are very reliable cars and even the M3's are mass produced, so you won't have any quirky issues that you get with a exotic. Same goes for Porsche.....

I have used a E36(owned 2) for a daily driver, but also owned a E46 as a weekend car and they were all reliable easy to live with, but they do ride very rough compared to a Porsche. Personally I'd steer you toward a 996 or 997 as I've had experience with both and hands down the Porsche is a just a better car.

I have been using my 2005 E46 M3 as a daily driver for the past 3 years with no problems. However, I do park the car for a few months when the winter weather gets really bad here in Ohio. I have another car I can use in the winter months, but if I did not I would slap some snow tires on the M3 and would be good to go. I use my to go to/from work, pick-up/drop-off the kid from daycare (yes, I have a car seat in my M3), get groceries, etc. It is actually a very versatile vehicle. I am sure the E90/E92 M3 would work just as well. Actually, the E92 M3 (sedan version) might be even more useful as a DD if you have kids.

RS4 is also a wonderful DD IMO. The engine sounds so good and the 4WD is excellent for the winter.

I drove one a some time ago and really liked it.

I don't think someone shopping for a new M3 is cross-shopping with an S4. Completely different vehicles. One is fun to drive, the other is a total bore.
