AFAIK there is only one existing real F40 spider in the world. It is actually raced by a Belgium team, hence the unusual color scheme. Somebody posted pics of it a while ago on FChat, but I can't find them anymore. However when they were posted I managed to print them out and modelled this F40 after it:

Talk about a labor of love. I thought no big deal, cut the roof off, paint it yellow and be done with it. Well, turns out this took me weeks on/off to work on. Anything you see on the pictures has been painted and in all likelihood been modified. One of the biggest changes was the front hood "hole". A friend of mine did that on his mill (thick metal) and I rebuilt the structure underneath it.

Completely redid the interior and added the rollbar out of a F355 Challenge car. However I made the bar too low, but it is so glued into place, I can't fix that anymore. Fire extinguisher and rear wing are parts from a F40 LM kit. Tires are slicks and all other additional parts were scratch built.

Paint job was the hardest and it took me a few models to get it right. The car you see is assembled out of about 5 other cars. Talk about a complex project.

For info, this car is not recognised by the factory as being an original F40... the car has been build on a tubular chassis made by a private company, and it is using an F40 engine and F40 body panels. The car has indeed no Ferrari s/n. It has the s/n JB001 for the name of the owner named Jean Blaton.

I don't think the JB Racing (John Beurly) F40 Spyder has ever been raced although it has all the proper equipment. I think it looks pretty nice.

the chopped F40 mentioned isn't an actual F 40. It was developed in 1993 using a F40 as a base. A bi-turbo V8 of 2.936cc producing 650 hp @ 7500 rpm sits in the back. A total weight of 960 kg. Specially made on order of Mr Blaton by an Italian-Swiss team, under supervision of Argentinian Mario Navarete and former technicians from the Coloni F1 team. Using a Hewland 5 speed box and a V8 biturbo engine relates it to a F 40. The engine is attached to the cage for overall stiffness. Suspension uses F1 technology.

JEAN BLATON is the real name for 'BEURLYS' the famous gentleman Ferrari-driver.

for me, i think he has the record of participation in Le Mans with Ferrari : 12 times, with 2nd in 1963 with GTO, 3rd in 1965, 3rd in 1967, last participation in 1979 with 512BBLM #27577.
He also drove the 330P4 in 1967 to 3rd row with Mairesse.

I think we must open a thread to this special person, as i see many of you don't know him.

He also owned the very first F50 delivered #103097, especially deliverd by the factory with yellow and black stripe, being the Belgian Flag.

I met him several times, and visited his private museum, un 'grand' Monsieur.

He also let made the 348 'ecurie Francorchamps' for him.

He owned an Ferrari F1 of Berger, a 308 Competizione, a 288 GTO, F40 LM, and several other F1 cars and Ferrari cars.

His daughter was also married with Jacky Ickx.....

Jean Blaton aka Beulys is one of the last Gentleman driver like a Gendebien ..
He did represent the ultimate private racer from Belgium.
His collection is very well known in Europe and a few great cars are for sale.
He was for me the best Ferrari driver who went year after years at Le Mans
to driver the best Ferraris at the time.
I agree that he deserve a special thread just on him.
I'm a great admire of him.

    Ouch!! This hurts!!
Did you see that it's not a Ferrari F40 Spyder? It's a Ferarri F40.... He, he.

Andreas, you've done a great job. I think it's a wonderful model, and a wonderful work you've done on it.

Thanks guys for all the positive feedback and also for the background information, that is so fascinating!

Tonin, your F40 spider looks different being red and with two roll hoops behind the seats. I think I have seen the original car on a picture: The quality is poor as it is a scan of a printout which was originally posted somewhere here on FChat. Maybe this is a F50, but I would rather bet it is a F40. Does anybody know?

Thanks so much! That thing looks wild. Making a model like that would be a huge challenge, not something I'd like to tackle right away.
