This should be a good one.
The executive producer of this new Star Trek film, Damon Lindelof, also produced the LOST tv series.
Also, special effects continue to improve over time - and I'm sure this film will likely have a number of places in it to use that latest technology.

That's a great perspective to start a new Trek movie series from.

 

Wish I could see it....

But, we probably won't get it here until it comes out on DVD... at least not the full version, as everything here is 'edited for content'....

Spock seems a bit too "emotional" for my taste. He's got some "Bones" DNA in him.

 

Bigger than that is the new Star Trek film is directed by JJ Abrams (also of LOST fame), a fairly controversial choice since he is not a "Trekkie" and not fully steeped in the series' mythology.

The trailers look fanatastic, it will either be one of the biggest hits of the year or one of the biggest flops.

Apparently that is a sub plot, Spock dealing with his emotional human half.

 

Probably. But also, there's a lot less "military discipline" in general going on. Part of the fun of Star Trek is that commonality with the military experience of today. The starship was run like a battleship of today. It made it "believable". This seems more like the Enterprise is run by a teenage night manager at McDonalds.

I think the guy who pitched this revisionist ST thinknig started out with this line:

"Think: The Fast and Furious---- in Spaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaacccce!!"

I think it will do huge BO. It will certainly do better than that ridiculous "GI Joe" movie.

 

Will they cover how he reprogrammed the Kobayashi Maru simulator?

Well, if you remember TOS (The Original Series for non-trek-a-philes), JTK was the youngest Captain in history of Starfleet. I think in one eps he even said he was made captain of 1701 at 30 or 31. And he gave his age as 34 in season three. So it is possible.

In fact, on current USN ships, it would be posable in a knock down drag out fight that all that were left were Lts and maybe a LtCom, that they could all be under 30 and some only 25!

Not if it makes a lot of money!

 

I'm a little worried -- it's an odd-numbered film (even if you start over)

Whatever is in this movie, it can't beat one of all time movie lines...

Even if it doesn't in the theatre, they'll make their back in DVD / Blue Ray sales, not to mention merchandising. Big films have failed before but in the long run wound up being cash cows.
