I almost soiled my pants when I heard this. A gay (no discrimination intended) gentleman, was sincerely admiring my F430 when he uttered those words....
Is this common? Personally, I don't think the F430 has any remote similarity to any Corvette....or am I mistaken?

I've had ppl think mine was everything from a vette to a mustang (after all, it DOES have the horsie).
I don't get offended by other folk's ignorance. I'm a big car fan; they clearly are not.

Now the jerks that purposely call it something else when they know it's an f-car.... well, life is full of a-holes always trying to button push.

I was approaching my 430 one day and observed a guy circling the car. When I got close, he said "I was trying to figure out what it was and then I saw the horse---it's a mustang!". I just said "yep" and got in.

I had the opposite....driving around in my S2000 when it was first released, I received a number of compliments on my "Ferrari"
....of course, I think it was probably the same people that think Pontiac hasn't made a "Ferrari" since the 80s

they thought it was a Corvette because of the tail lights and general wedge shape (even though the car and tail lights do not resemble how Corvettes look). And in his world, Ferraris never exist, so yours didn't either.

Agreed. The C4-C6 Corvette and F430 both trace their roots back to the Ferrari 308. Also, the headlight design and technology looks similar on the newer cars. The wind tunnel is the great equalizer. The 360 tail lights were actually closer to the Corvette, though, IMO.

I haven't seen an F430 next to a C6 Corvette, but there is a black C6 that parked one space over from my black 328 at a restaurant not long ago, and there's enough similarity to make you look twice, especially from the rear.

I bet you they were a couple. No way two straight guys would get excited over a Miata.

Maybe he was using the word corvette as a generic term for a sports car? My father had antique cars for much of the time I was growing up. He owned a 1913 Cadillac about which he was constantly being asked, "what kind of a Model T is that?" My grandmother referred to all cameras as kodaks and all refrigerators as fridgidaires.

I have to admit that on more than one occasion I have had to do a double take when a more modern corvette has been coming at me while stretching my babys legs. It seems that every year the vettes lines are looking more and more familiar. Whats the old saying. "Imitation is the sincerest form of compliment."

As much as comments like that get under your skin they usually aren't meant to be mean. I couldn't tell the difference between Dolce Gabana sunglasses and Armani ones if you paid me but that comment made to a fashionista would probably raise eybrows.

Like it was said the new vette looks like a Ferrari.

    But still..

Given that one's a targa and one's a spider, and they're different colors (black changes the perceived shape of cars), I can kind of see the Corvette/F430 similarity.

The basic shape hasn't changed much since 308 days.

Jon- The funny thing about Corvettes is they have gotten much smaller (all dimensions within one inch of a 911 on the regular C6) and that makes them look even more like a Ferrari at first glance. Nobody makes that mistake with a Porsche usually, because the same basic shape has been around since 1965 and the 901.

Agreed 100%. The C6 looks more like a 328 than the C4 did.

The F430 similarity isn't as tight, but that may be because Ferraris have become much larger.

Best I could do with little effort was to get the two shot from the same angle. I can see the similarity as well.

Since I got my 355 4 months ago, I've heard the compliment, "nice porsche," on 2 separate occasions. One time it came from an old man and another time from a young girl. I just said thanks and went on my way. I'm sure there was no malice behind the statement. A compliment's a compliment and I'll take it in any form.
