I went on a spectacular drive yesterday with 15 other exotics (see NorCal section), and then came home exhausted. Decided to go see a movie with some friends, came out, and a friend (passenger) and I saw what some jack-a$$ did to my car. At least I went a year w/o damage...

Sucks. Anyone know a good paint shop in the bay area? Looks to be about 8" long, the dimple is about 4-5", it's about 3/4" high, and it definetly cut all the way down to the metal. I have no clue what did it (there was a white volvo sedan from the 80s parked next to me on my left, and a curb on my right).

What really sucks is the whole process. I am told I have to go file a police report, then submit a claim, then an insurance agent will come out, and then I'm sure Allstate will try to give me some back-water bondo shop, whereas I'll want to fly out a specialist from the factory.

What really annoys me is that there was no note - nothing. I was in a relatively unused theater (not very popular one), and parked off to the side.

Scatten: my thought too. I wish I could show the depth of the scratches + the angular nature of the cut and the dimple. It's just so deep...it had to be like a truck and thsi is definetly metal cutting it...

Oh man that sucks big time. I feel for you. Something similar happened w/ my car (BMW), got a big dent that can't be popped out. I came out and saw it and there was no note, nothing. I was so upset, it ruined my whole week. I can't imagine how I'd feel if I had a 550. Hope it all works out well for you Dan, let us know what happens.

I can see by the pictures your car is a real driver, But I'm surprised at how many guys leave their car unattended. I just never do it, and I don't mean to start a raging debate, but odds are stuff like that is going to happen, not worth it. Go for a drive, come back home.

    Dan,
I feel for ya. Seems we expect more from people when we have nice cars...unfortunately careless jerks, are "jerks" regardless. I have had the same (and worse) done to my daily drivers over the years. I've had people back into my Ferrari too, and drive off. Idiots.

to me it looks like the volvo driver for some unknown reason backed out of the parking space with the door open, to leave a mark that long and deep i would have to think it was deliberate. really sorry to read this about your car. i hate walking away from mine to get gas, (i hate using credit / debit cards) , much less going to a public place around this town and leaving it. good luck with Allstate. they suck.

People have no respect. I was hit by an older women in my NSX while it was parked and I was standing next to it. She just drove off...I ran next to her car and told her to stop and then told her she just hit my car, which she said "No I didn't" in reply too! She would not admit she did anything!

what a total lack of respect! I would never even go within a foot of a Ferrari if I saw it parked somewhere, some people just deserve to be shot. I can't begin to imagine what the person was thinking when they did this. You have to be absolutely STUPID! Hopefully the repairs go well, sorry to about your bad luck!

Thanks for the words guys. Even the two officers who filed the report were nto happy about it. A lot of you guys have had a lot worse, I know. Gotta love the community. My family was like "oh please..." :D

Well, all things considered it could've been a lot worse. It should be pretty decently easy to fix.

And worry not, Dale. I'm driving at least another 150 miles today to an F-Chat related BBQ! :D Small battle wounds are signs of pride, right?

I do have one question: with the rest of the car so dirty: should I wash it now? I don't want the bare metal to be oxidized, so I was thinking it's best to avoid water. Then again, what I could do is apply a heavy dosage of wax over the damaged area and surrounding, and wash the rest?

My desire to wash it is mainly because the paint shop will have to do so otherwise. Of course, they probably do a much better job at cleaning paint, but if they are to match it properly, does the car need to go in clean?

I should say, I don't think it was intentional. They probably just hit the car, and when they did, got scared about it (I mean, it's not a toyota) and ran off. Whatcha gonna do?

Sorry, that sucks. I would agree with those who have suggested it doesn't look intentional but what a low-life for not leaving an explanation note and contact info. :(

  21. Its not that bad that looks like its down to the clear it can just be rub off from the other car. Its sad that people do this though, After you get this all fixed get that car detailed look at the wheels and brown tires and those swirls. :(

I think that has happened to many of us, resulting in the same anger and frustration. Its happened to me several times, so that if I now take any type of exotic/restored car out, I park it in the remotest (but still well-lit) part of the parking lot, diagonally across two slots, so that I avoid most of the soccer moms in their Suburbans. Even that doesn't help all the time, I've had junkers park beside me in a relatively empty lot. And to those who complain about two spaces being used - well, I consider a parking lot a war zone anyway!

But I agree, most of the time its drivers that aren't malicious, just unskilled, oblivious, or just don't care.

Looks to me like they opened their door and slid backwards and held the door open against your car. Check with the centre they most likely have video footage of all cars in and out and you may see the license no. of the white volvo. I am sure Grissam from csi could solve the crime. I think it is digusting what people do. I never let my car out of my sight. Hope it is an easy repair. LOL Tony

Man...I am so sorry...and I am just more amazed at the amount of disrespect some people have for other people's stuff...a shame. Best of luck on the fix.
