    I FOUND the K relay.............Yes an updated, modern technology, direct replacement. I will have a price tomorrow, 1/8/08 ,along with the part #.....................

    But.....................

    I have been informed that there is a minimum amount of this relay I will need to buy in order to even get the two I will need (1 to install & 1 to have as a spare). So what I am proposing is, if there is any interest by others out here in F-land to get a pair I would be willing to order the minimum and sell them at cost plus shipping. Let's say their $5 usd each......Well then you buy 2 @ $5 each X 2 = $10 + $5 shipping = $15 usd....................Is their interest?

    Now I still do not know what my cost will be or the minimum I must order, I am waiting for the phone to ring with the answer................ They may be $1 each or $12 each, and I may need to only order 10 or maybe the minimum is 50+. So just keep that in mind. I will check back in the next few hours overnite and see if there are interested parties. .................If not I'll just sell them on ebay for mucho dollarinos...

    No, not just a TR thing. The 308s, 328s, and (non-t) Mondials also use one of these Bosch ...006 relays in the control of the exterior lights -- but don't know if putting the "K" on the outer case for easier identification is something that only happened a little later in the timeframe.

    LOL.....Poor little guy - us "K"s are always gettin' picked on....... < wipes runny nose on sleeve >

    It really is curious as to why it's the lone "K" in a pack of "Slashes". Are all of the "Slashes" of the same type? Just kind of curious, and wondering if there's a simliar (or same) relay hiding in that pass. side floorboard box of the Boxer to worry about.

    Yes, the ones with the slashes are the SPDT Bosch ...101 and the unmarked ones are the SPST Bosch ...113 (and, yes, your BB512i has one of the "K" ...006 relays).

    I would be interested in a few for spares for my 328. Not sure I really saw a price on them, so let me know. I can do paypal if needed.

    Kerry,

    If these are Ferrari Part # 50356609 (from the '81 GTSi Parts Cat) and cheaper than $90.00 (ea), I am in for one. Cheaper than $50.00 (ea), I am in for two.

    How would I pay you?

    Post the info you find (Part#'s and prices) soonest, please.

    Mark,

    Let's see what Kerry's price is on these, as mine cost me $26.90....and I'm pretty sure that I've got 10 or so here somewhere. The ones I have were the OE Bosch units, as I recall.

    No, they are Ferrari Part Number 40283905 (Bosch PN 0332015006)

    If I just needed 1, I'd be happy enough to pay the $26.90 price that David quoted, if it minimized the time hassle, but, for over-$50, I'm willing to put up with some time hassle. Here's a quick comparison of some present on-line prices for this particular relay:

    Eurospares = $18.59 (L12.2)
    RockAuto = $20.79
    AllFerrariParts = $56
    RicambiAmerica = $72.37 (Daniel -- buy some relays from RockAuto and resell at $40 ;))

    PS IMO, you guys are getting way too excited about this relay -- it only controls the external lights, and I can't recall anyone posting a previous failure. My interest is to just have another source for better price, if needed.

    Funny thing, Steve...

    My BB was plauged, for a long time, with no high beams and intermittantly, no headlights at all. After working myself up that it was "the uber-expensive column switch", after a bit a circuit testing, it was the "K" type relay. The 365bb uses a few of them...albeit with a different type of mounting configuration.

    OK - you're the first to report a problem ;)

    Actually, on a US TR this relay is also used for a more important engine function (cold-running), but it is located in the not-user-accessible triangular black box so having a spare in the toolkit isn't really a roadside help. I guess my point is that having 1 spare on-hand is ultra-conservative, and having 2 spares -- well, I hope you leave instructions for your heirs because they won't know what it's for ;)

    My BMW motorcycle uses the same relay for the headlights. Approximately $17 from various sources on the Web. It is nothing special. Has two contacts activated with the same control circuit. I assume this is to limit current across the contact "patch" within the relay, else one could simply place the two wires (87a and 87b) on a double-spade tab connected to 87a of a standard relay.

    For those interested, search for the headlight relay for a 1976 R90/6 BMW motorcycle. The relay was used in most BMWs during the mid 1970s.
