Well, I'm the crazy F-chatter that purchased the Enzo key from ebay. A seller described that his (uncles) Enzo had been broken into and the locks had been changed. His uncle gave him the original set of keys. He kept one and put the other one on Ebay. I thought it was a pretty cool piece of Ferrari memoribilia (Not a lot of them around and from what I'm told, something you can't just order from the dealer without a VIN and Reg. #) This was how I talked myself into buying it, of course I had a bit of buyers remorse after I bought it. I decided after paying $500.00 for it I figured what the heck, it looks different then my 360 key and would be a neat conversation piece. Well, it arrived today and the box was EMPTY!!!!! A few details: 1) The box was intact and unopened when I received it. (I opened it with an X-acto blade when it arrived) Inside was a lot of bubble wrap and an empty packing envelope with more bubble wrap inside. The packing envelope had a hole in it and no key. I immediately contacted the seller (who already has my $500.00 + $40.00 for overnight shipping from Canada) and he is shocked...says I should pursue the value amount from UPS (he valued the key only at $400.00 for some reason). He says he put the key in the box. He does have another key. I said since he already has my money and since he shipped it, he should pursue the reimbursement from UPS and send me the other key. As of this post, the issue is unresolved. I guess I'm going to have to buy an actual Enzo to get my key........ If anyone hears of an Enzo Key for sale beware!!! it is stolen!! Expensive lesson Your thoughts, words of encouragemnet, wisdom, suggestions, etc
I'd guess that you've been scammed. Keep an eye on his feedback over the next few days and see if he doesn't start racking up some negatives. If it was me, I'd be on the phone to his local cops. Of course it could be an honest mistake or perhaps it was stolen from the package but that really isn't your problem. You paid for something and you should get it.
IMO: He sent you an empty box. This sucks, I'm sorry to hear it. How could UPS have lost anything if the box is intact. That is complete rubbish. Does UPS weigh packages before they go out? If so, was the weight of the empty box different from the weight of the package when he sent it? I'd contact Ebay too.
Zach, You should be a detective! I just weighed the empty box. It weighs the same as what is listed as the shipped weight; BUT I think that 1 lbs. is the default weight for overnight boxes even if they are a bit lighter....I don't know, I'm starting to feel ripped off.
Sorry to say it, this is characteristic one of the scams run on ebay. Sellers will even ship a box of rocks or phone books so everything looks right to you the buyer until actually opening the box. With something as light as a key, there wouldnt be any need to bother. Crossing from Canada can't make prosecution any easier on your part, it can't hurt to try & make him give up another key, but I'd go ahead and claim my insurance. At least he got the insurance, even if it is for $100 less than your investment. A scammer with compassion for his victims! Worst part is, I have no idea how you could have prevented this entirely. This is one of the few occasions on which the PayPal money back guarantee might work, but I doubt that would have been offered on a small fish individual seller. It could be a hijacked account, who knows.
From what I recall, UPS rounds the shipping weight up. So if your box weighs 1 lbs. with nothing in it, it should have weighed slightly more with the key in it, therefore showing a shipping weight of 2 lbs on the shipping label.
UPS will be happy to help you pursue this fraud. If you call the local claim center, got to UPS.com and look for the center nearest you, and explain that you got a sealed box that was empty, they will chase this guy to the end of the Earth. Only hitch is, they may not pay your claim, so bang away at paypal 1st to get your money back.
If you look at the shipping sticker, it should show the weight in tenth's of a pound, like .8 lbs, or 1.1 lbs. UPS scales work in 10th's of a pound, at least mine does.
If the guy doesn't offer to make good on anything and just tells you to get a UPS refund, it was a total scam. I don't know what you could have done differently other than verifying that there was an actual key being shipped by a third party. This is how con artists/scammers work, they get you excited about something, so much so that you trust them and that's when the pull the rug. Let us know if you get any resolution to this.
i read this the first time and didnt post a reply. but the more i think about it the more it pisses me off. this ebay scam crap sucks. i dont use ebay and i dont use paypal and its been a pain in the ass to get stuff for my 308. there has got to be a better way for folks to do business. fchat has had these things posted weekly about scams of our members or folks close to them. who the hell are the big folks at pay pal and ebay, why dont they care about this? the scams and hacking are rampant and unchecked. i hope this gets worked out , or payback is rendered.
This has the makings of a SCAM!! And I love SCAMS!!! This guy has sold that same key before. (See Below) Same pictures. I saw your transaction also. I'm assuming your ID begins with "Toy" correct? (If this is correct I don't want to disclose your full ID) I do have a question for you if this info is correct. I saw positive feedback given by you to this seller. Did you submit the following : "A++ Great ebayer, Thank you very much!!!" ?? (here is his previous sale of the same key.) Sold for: US $1,999.00 Ended: May-31-04 18:45:10 PDT Start time: May-27-04 15:45:26 PDT History: 1 bid (US $1,999.00 starting bid) Buyer: toronto_prelude ( 0 ) I would suggest contacting this buyer (Toronto_prelude) and see if his exp was simular. So how close are we to smoking this rat out?? PD
Where was the box actually shipped from? Did the seller pack the box himself, or did he walk into some Mailboxes Etc place and loudly proclaim, "I've got a Ferrari key worth $500 that I need to send" and after boxing it up for him, some ner-do-well in the back room working for peanut wages decided to take it for himself? Ask him if he boxed it himself or let somebody else do it? Sounds like an inside job.
Dude, you totally got scammed!! How could anyone think that he sent you the key and it was stolen? He obviously sent you an empty box for the purposes of covering his ass. OOPS! It must have been stolen in transit. Yea, right!! First of all, I would bet you anything his "uncle's Enzo" was not broken into with a freaking screwdriver!!! Who breaks into an Enzo with a screwdriver? Are you kidding? What was he planning on doing, hot wiring it and driving away like an old 70s Hunter episode? Please! Do you know how difficult it is to steal an Enzo? And what was this screwdriver bandid going to do with this Enzo? Sell it on eBay??? There's no way for him to sell it anywhere. I'm sorry, but people don't break into Enzo's with screwdrivers. And even if he did, why would he have to replace the locks???? Can't he repair it? This is the biggest BS story I've heard of all year. Ask this thief for pictures of his uncle's broken into Enzo, which I'm sure would exist if it was true. After he gives you some lame excuse... contact eBay, and contact authorities ASAP. I would bet there is no documentation of an Enzo being busted into with a screwdriver!! Then hammer his ass. That's at least what I would do.
CT - Yes, my ID starts with "Toy". No, I didn't leave any feedback to this guy yet. DAMN!!!!! This sucks!!! [Removed by Rob at request of JunR]
sorry to hear about this mess. From the sounds of it (box intact), it was a scam. However, I sold a limited edition Land Rover Defender 90 key chain on eBay and when shipped, it "somehow" penetrated the thick envelope and was missing upon arrival. Seller questioned whether I actually sent the keychain and likewise, I questioned if he just said that to get his money back. In the end, we decided to split the cost and I refunded him half his money. But in your case, not sure how it slid out of the box. ???? Hope it gets resolved.
Let's see... I'm a dumb thief and I'm going to steal this Enzo, yea, that's the ticket! This poor little Enzo which is just sitting here... nobody will notice a guy breaking into it! I can't wait to drive it down to the local Ferrari dealership and sell it to them! yea! That's it! But how am I going to do it damnit! Oh wait, I got this handy dandy screw driver. I'll just stick it a bit here, wedge it a bit there... oh damn, but oh wait, my cheap screw driver broke. But in the process, I did so much damage to the key mechanism, which is VERY well protected inside the door and far from any edges, as to require the owner to replace the entire unit! haha!!! I've had my revenge. Call him and tell him that if you don't get your money back within 2 hours then you will report him to the police. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Call him on the BS. Ask for the Enzo VIN# and the Ferrari dealer that did the lock change. Call said Ferrari dealer and confirm. I bet this low life won't/can't give that info. Tell him lacking that info for proof you will go after him. -- Michael
From a quick Google search, that is the same address as Mike Simone who happens to run http://www.sportaction.ca/ (Be careful, the site has sound) My money would be on Dan Simone being Mike Simone's kid and having fun with the eBay account. That's just speculation of course but a definite possibility.
OK let the pimp do his work to smoke this rat out. If you have any more info PM me. I will not make any personal info public but I will post the dirty stuff if and when I find anything. PD (RELEASE THE HOUNDS!!)
Rich - That's good info. thanks. I thought it a bit odd if he was a total scammer that he gave me his cell number and has answered it when I called. This really sucks......
