Worst hiking trail ever!

My thoughts too... Must have been one brave MF to make that trail...!

 

That's a very o;d trail.

 

That would be the point where my walk ended and i turned back.

 

Wow. I would have turned around 5:43 ago.

I shat myself just watching that.

I've been in a lot of hard hikes. But this, this is ridiculous. Would love to try it one day though, if I don't puss out that is

I would be curious how many fatalities there are per year on that "trail".

If it was in an action movie, you would think it was CG and couldn't possibly exist.

 

Lord almighty. I heard about that trail, but never in my life could I imagine it was THAT bad. They build it for the workers of the dams up there, imagine this is your daily commute to work!! I REALLY wonder how the got all that concrete up there...

Another thing I noticed is that there seem to be quite a lot of people on the way, although it is closed and hiking there seems to lead to a hefty fine (6000€ as I read). No way in hell I'd walk there! I don't even want to start thinking of how it would be to walk along there with a camera in your hand, don't know if the guy who filmed it has balls of steel or is plain stupid. Maybe a bit of both...

Edit: Watching it again, he walked WAY too fast to attach himself with some rope to that steel cable like some of the other hik...maniacs in the video did. He doesn't stop for changing the hook to the next part of the cable. Which makes his passing of the sections where only the steel struts are left even crazier...

 

Wikipedia says 4 fatalities in 1999 and 2000, which lead to the closing of the trail

 

It should be renamed Darwin's trail.

1st trail isn't that bad, the wire they have on the side should support you if you are harnessed up. Still massive balls of steel are needed to walk on a pipe a few thousand feet high.

 

Imagine doing that trail on a bike.

I was thinking that the entire time I was watching the clip. Hiking it is one thing, biking it is just plain crazy.

This is the trail I was thinking about. Chain and foot holes carved into the side of the steep mountain rock.... go for it! That one has them all beat.

I can only imagine was was going through the minds of the monks looking for an ideal spot to setup; "I found a great location to build our temple!"

 

If I ever did something stupid enough to kill myself, I know what to do before I go.

 

I really wonder how they got all the stuff to build the temple up there... and how they got to find that location in the first place, I mean, you somehow have to get there to decide the place is worth building a temple

 

I also wondered. I think most of it was probably built using stuff up there. Tree's, rocks, several hundred years of work.....and a lot of sore backs

I"m guessing this is where cartoonists got the inspiration for the 'all-knowing' guru at the top of the mountain.

 

That's an interesting site. Interesting how different other peoples stories are, and kinda funny how the website owner keeps saying he's never been to China!

That note about Half Dome got me. I hiked that several years ago, and the cables scared the #### out of me. I did it after labor day so there was maybe 20 people at most, and passing with backpacks on was scary. I've seen pictures where it looked like a line for a Disney ride. If someone slipped who knows how many will get knocked off!

 

Yes, the second page ("Letters...." something like that) explains a lot, but doesn't make that trail any less frightening!
