    Gary,

Monaco first practice day has always been on the Thursday. The race date is always linked to Ascension day and the Friday is a public holiday in Monaco - although they do usually have practice for the support races early Friday morning.

In fact the race always used to start late on the Sunday as well, so Prince Rainier had time to digest his lunch, but commercial considerations have overtaken that.

NOW you tell me! :) I didn't realize that, don't remember it from previous years, it's just one senior moment after another.

The Schue on pole as expected. However Davidson in the 3rd BAR on 2nd kinda tells me that people weren't gunning for all out speed.

They said that Monaco is a high downforce track and not that fast. However, looking at the telemetry data indicates the fast guys are getting 299 Kph speeds--not bad for a street course in a city.

You only reach that once or twice for a very short time: Before braking for St. Devote and after the tunnel exit. Topspeed is irrelevant, it is all about downforce in the turns.

Yep. Speed (as it is now known) is the only game in town. A good reason to get DirecTV if your cable provider doesn't offer it. Of course, then you have to remember when the programming is (or get a TIVO).

I wish Bernie would upgrade his tv equipment... the feed he provides to speed channel, itv and other stations is not that great. Lots of dropouts and macroblocking in the mpeg stream. I watch F1 on Speed and the announcers have to remind the viewers that the crappy video is not Speed Channels fault. I want F1 in HDTV I saw a Cart race on HDNET last year it looked really nice... In car footage of MS in HDTV for the whole race would be nice too :p
Plazamedia in Germany had a setup where viewers could use the remote to change which in car footage they received...I think NASCAR is doing that this year with a special viewer package... but ovals are booring

Historic races were run last weekend. You can find some pictures of them on my site http://www.racefotos.nl, choose 'seizoen 2004' evenement 'Grand Prix de Monaco Historique'. I may be taking pictures from sunday race on my TV set. I probably won't post them...
