Since I'm aware of all you guys being so knowledgable and the fact of me being obsessed with this car, I ask you all the info you know about this car .
Why is it a "one off" or isn't it? ( since it is a street/road car)
Why Bertone didn't design more Ferraris ? ( considering It looks successful)
former and current owner? ( it must be a a great addition to any collection)
all info, history and pics will be welcome . Thanks in advance ferrarisits.

Never too late to learn. I looked in my Bertone book for pix of the car in question, and I was surprised to see this car. The caption:

"Bertone's first challenge to the Ferrari's body in a long time, this 250GT was presented at the 1960 Torino Show. ....featured a beautiful proportion and a roomy greenhouse, but lacked somewhat in charisma."

    In other words, it's ugly.

There is a good article on 3269 in "Thoroughbred & Classic Cars", October 1999.

I believe it's still owned by Lorenzo Zambrano. I rebuilt the engine of that car about 25 years ago for Steve Tillack.
IIRC, that's the last car Bertone did for Ferrari 'tli the 308GT4.

This is the first 250 Bertone - in fact a SWB on chassis 1739GT

Photo 1 shows it in it's original white livery - a Bertone picture

Photo 2 shows the present red version - note the protected headlights

And here is the second Bertone, chassisnr. 3269GT (another SWB)

The first photo shows it in silver, the color it wore a period of time

The second photo shows the present (and original) blue body

Note the chroming of the wheels versus the original silver paint. What a pity some cannot help themselves and have to over restore and polish everything :(

As for 3269GT that is a very modern looking car, far more modern than Pininfarinas efforts. It has stood the test of time very well.

As far as I'm aware, 3269 is still owned by Zombrano. It is beautiful car that I had the honor of driving when Tillack was doing some work on it.

The other Bertone bodied car isn't quite as attractive to me, but it is far from ugly...Below is an UGLY Ferrari...

    Well lets see..
-It won Best of Show at the renowned Bagatelle Concours d'Elegance in Paris, France.
-The car was first shown at the Geneva Auto Show in 1962.
    - The original owner was Nuccio Bertone.
    - Its now repainted a deep, lustrous blue.
    - It was imported intro the U.S. in the 1960s, and for many years the car resided in southern California.
    - Approximately three years ago, it was restored for a prominent Central American collector by Bob Smith Coachworks.

Althought I've fallen in love with this car , I have never seen a pic of it's rear view or may I say it's butt . (anyone have more pix?)
and my question remains : why it was a "one off" I used to think one offs were exclusively race cars..........

Urraco: It just doesn't work well to post magazine articles when you downsize them to 640 pixels, and I don't have anywhere to post a link (or I don't know how to do it). But I can scan the article and email it to you if you wish. Takes a while to send, but it's readable.

    When you write :
"And here is the second Bertone, chassisnr. 3269GT (another SWB)"

Don't forget 057S (166 Inter cabriolet) which was the first Bertone ever.
1739GT is the 2nd and 3269GT the third Bertone.

    Aardy,

I only meant the 2d 250. Of course I know there was a 166 before.

But it had chassisnr. 061S - see photo

    Urraco,

For you photo's of the backside in silver and blue

    No longer here
You need to learn the difference between chroming and polishing the rims of Borrani wheels -- many of the originals were highly polished, including those of the car in question.

The 166I is OK, but kind of non-descript....like many of the Ferraris of the period. It isn't that much different from the Stab.Farina bodied cars...

I had the pleasure of brokering 3269 to Lorenzo the first time he bought it. Prior owner was my friend Bill Karp, who was not really a hard-core car nut. I guess he owned it for so long just because it was unusual. At that time it had a poor paint job (although done by a well-known painter) and needed an engine overhaul. It still had the original interior which featured grommets in the leather, a detail that later showed up in the Daytona. Ugly or beautiful? In the eye of the beholder!
