348 Jacking points Do this at your own risk. Not responsible for any damages. If you are not using a lower profile jack add 2 X 6 pieces of wood under each wheel. Cut a minimum of 30 degree angle on each board this will make driving the car up on the boards much easer. Before you jack up the car, loosing the lug nuts. Center jack under crease of door jam. Place jacks in postition lower jack slowly. Repeat same procedure for other side. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Adsphelan, I'm assuming your post is in reply to my earlier post, found here: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=167938 Your method of jacking (both wheels on one side of the car simultaneously) is similar to what has been shown previously on the forum. From your photos, it's clear that you are placing your rear jack stand under the aft-most corner of the engine cradle. That was one of my questions answered, thanks. My other question was regarding the possibility of using a front location that is on the frame rail inboard of the front suspension mounting point. I would still like to know if that is possible. - Eric PS - Maybe a moderator should combine these two threads?
I need some help with identifying the safe jack points for my 348. In particular, I want to know where I can safely place jack stands under the car. After searching the forum, the consensus seems to be that you can put jack stands under the two side points near the front and rear edges of each door, and also under the forward edge of the engine cradle (see first photo below, which I borrowed from another post). Is it safe to use points further aft on the engine cradle, as I've circled in the second photo below? Also, is there a safe place to use jack stands in the front that is inboard of the normal side jacking point? The third photo below shows the right front wheel, as seen looking towards the front of the car. I've circled what appears to be a fairly substantial cross beam that's tied in with the front suspension mounting. Could a jack stand be used here? Finally, are there any safe central jacking points for front and/or rear? Everything I've found by searching says there's not, but I thought I'd ask just to be sure. Regarding the jacking or jack stands points up front in the second post. I have not used this approach so I can not say if will work. Im sure we will receive this info in future posts. Regarding the rear jacking or jack stand point I did not have any problems with it but I centered the jack or jack stand under the main 4 engine cradle by the muffler. I have not used the second location. Yes the front wheels are on backwards, when I bought the car they were that way. The driver side has some curb rash. So I think this is why he switched it.
The front wheels are correct. The rear wheels are on the wrong side. The heavy "thick" side of the wheel always rolls forward per Jack Russell Racing in another post. Each wheel is different on the 348, so you need to be careful when mounting new tires. I know that mine are all wrong and will be corrected when I buy new tires.
For safety, put chock blocks around your front wheels when jacking the rear of your car. NOTE: Your front wheels are free spinning...they are not held by your transmission being in gear, and the 348 emergency brake controls the rear wheels only. So to avoid having your 348 roll forward as you jack up the rear of your car, place chock blocks in front and behind both of your front wheels.
The rear wheels are on backwards in the pictures above. Be careful about the rear jackpoints. I read that someone put the jack through their radiator. Here are some old photos of the jackpoints I used. you can see I used a much farther inboard spot on the rear of the car. I also drive onto some 2x6, but I put them sideways.
