Hey, just got home from a ride in Steve J's F40...holy moly, this thing smokes! I have been in fast cars...but nothing like this....major g forces pushing me in my seat...(racing seats with 5 point harness btw). Steve is a terrific driver too, so no drama, just quick revs through to redline, turbos spooling up and that unmistakable sound of the waste gate releasing...amazing!! He demonstrated the braking too, doing a couple hard threshold stops from 100. Great brakes, though Steve thinks they may need upgrading....I dunno, seemed fine to me. :)

Unfortunately the pics I took today were not all that hot, but here is one from another drive, when he let me catch up to him in my 328 GTS. See that grin? This was three weeks ago and he hasn't lost it yet!

Sounds like a nice ride. Those F40's are brutal. As close to a race car as your gonna get for the street. What an animal!!! I wonder how much psi or should I say "bar" are those two turbos putting out in the F40?

I don't think there is one in Hawaii anymore. There used to be one at the Ferrari dealer on Beretania back in the early 90s. I remember parking my motorcycle on the sidewalk in front of the dealer at night, smoking a cigarette and enjoying those lines. It was my understanding that the buyer immediately shipped it off the island.

The ONE Enzo here has been shipped away too. :( I was hoping I would at least get to see it.

BTW, Hi, good to see you here. :)

It's amazing how the those massive tires can still break loose when the boost hits. The only car that I've seen pull harder was this Porsche turbo (.75g in 4th gear is pretty amazing....boost & torque spikes are the same). Look at the torque spike between 4000-5000 rpms. HP of 582 is at the wheels with no correction factor. This car was similar in weight to the F40 at around 2500 lbs.

I wish I had a change to dyno the F40 when it was here although I will have a chance to play with a Gallardo (different thread) for a few weeks on the dyno. Steve...too bad you're on the other coast or we'd really have a chance to fine tune your car. SD

    Wow - that is amazing!

I'll be taking my car to a dyno soon. Once I get to the middle of May, I'll have way more time to play.

That's an interesting graph, really gives you a feel for what the power delivery on that turbo would be like...

That must have been a fast Porsche with 582hp and only 2500lbs...

Its all about boost in these cars....add 13psi boost between 3750-4750 rpms and see what it does to torque, hp and acceleration. SD (PS- when boost was increased to 21 psi, the dyno went into shutdown, giving the Dynapack equivalent of the "blue screen of death", as the torque capacity of the equipment was exceeded. This was in excess of 800hp at the wheels )
