How many were made?
They are the US Feded cars. Therefore, they are heavier than the Euro versions (rest of the world). For this reason in MY OPINION there are nothing really special about them. I would much rather own a late Euro version, but you can't import one.... Production number: 1311, are we counting the GT, GTE, Evos here?
What about the F40 'ecological' models? One of the older factory guys from Italy that worked on that F40 model also was later posted to FNA a couple of years ago. Are those models included in the 213? CH
It's more than 1300 but less than 1500, between 1987 and 1996, including the Evo's, the LM's the GT's and all of the FOF's (Friends of the Factory like the Sultan of Brunei who had several RHD versions built for him) add- ons. The US production was limited to a three year period (1990 -1992). What makes the US cars diferent, is US specific items like the bumper, metal gas tanks, wind-up windows and the fact that by the time they started making US versions their CF manufacturing and assembly techniques were greatly improved, so the US car tended to be better made than the 1980's Euro versions. ^Great post, based on those facts it would be nearly impossible to figure an exact number of total units.
Excellent. The USA cars indeed had $11m spent to develop that series alone according to Dean Batchelor and its state-of-the-art double-skinned aluminum gas tank, improved engine management to pass smog yet yeild 515bhp (same performance as the lighter rest-of-the-world cars), stregthened front and rear hoods etc etc. Massini tells me that exactly 213 USA cars were made and Ive learned over the years not to doubt his unerring statistics. I thought you said earlier you sold the F40 for a Muira & when asked was it worth it, you stated "well I still have the Muira" So is this a "new F40" ?
7 RHD cars by Pininfarina for Brunei Royal family. 5 went to Brunei and 2 stayed in London. One was grey, the other Giallo, supposedly later owned by Rod Stewart. The grey one was repainted Rosso Corsa and overhauled by Terry Hoyle for £85,000 and offered for sale with 7,000kms by Adrian Hamilton in 2006. Price £250,000. Either sold or taken off the market now.
Dear Comrade Birel, Rod Stewart's car was indeed yellow but not right hand drive. With kind regards, Road Burner
Rod Stewart also had a USA F40 which he kept in Beverly Hills. It was sold to a Burlingame gentleman who passed away and as of 2 weeks ago it had been sold to La Jolla. As with all ex-Stewart cars, it was 'well-used'. Joe www.joesackey.com
