You can do it yourself or contact cavallinomodels.com. They work good and they can do custom models for you with original Ferrari paint. If you are new in this world of diecast. Please try to buy models in Ebay. its more sheaper that exoticar and others. if you need any help with a model let me know.

I have been collecting 1/18 scale cars for about 13 years and I have found that many of the retail stores are carrying some really nice models. Not kyosho, but Burago, Maisto, Hot Wheels etc. I found several models around the Christmas holidays at a store called Macfrugals here in Texas for 10.00. Exoticar wanted 25 to 30$ for the same thing plus s/h.

One way to get away from bland paint jobs is to look into race cars. IMHO much more interesting to look at.

Do the cars need primer prior to be repainted? because once i took the paint off and apply the new color to the bare metal, and it just didn't get well...........(the new paint just faded away......)

Hi Urraco
As you figured out - the paint will not stick to naked metall, you must use primer before you repaint if you want a good result.
The primers jobb is to cover small cracks in the metall and to make a grip for the paint.
If you decide NOT to remove the old color, then use a fine sandpaper and rub the entire car until it looks scrached up - then primer - then the new paint.
If you're veeeery picky, then you can paint the car with one thin layer and wait until it dryes and then use a V E R Y fine sandpaper and rub the car gentley again for a new layer of paint.
When you're done with the paint, I can recomend you to use 3-4 layers of clear finish - it will make the car shine like a baby butt. (or like the head of a balled 67 old guy) LOL

Paul, I just finished painting my 250 gt SWB Red. I had to first sand the car down with a 750 grit sandpaper. then use Tamiya grey primer, let dry for at least two hours then wet sand with a 1200 sandpaper. let dry for at least 24 hours. Next apply first coat even strokes 10- 12 inches from the model. let dry for 2 hours, then apply second coat, let dry for 2 hours. until you have the desired look. let the car dry for a full 24 hours before applying clear coat.
I had to find this out by trial and error. on my particular car, I used a gloss red, then followed up with a clearcoat.

I bet your result is G R E A T ! now this is the hard way to repaint, but you'll get 100% perfect result - a lot of people dont have this time when they repaintthey got this "hurry-up-I-wanna-see" syndrom and this includes myself, I use a couple of days on one model, so I guess I'm somewhere in the middle here!
My plans now is to do a F40 (blue as the 250 in this post) a Testarossa in blue
and a F50 in green (shock green(?)) with black lights and intakes, with this F50, I'm planing of modify it by doing a few adjustments to it
