Silver 288 GTO

I took these photo's at the Houston Auto show around 1986/87 time frame. Their was a TR and 328 there as well.

I forgot all about this car. And I thought all 288 GTO's were Red (and that one yellow one). I've got a better photo of it somewhere, but I seem to have misplaced it.

I heard (many moons ago) that Mick Jagger had his 288 painted silver; and I remember seeing a photo of it.

That car looks absolutely stunning, in my opinion much better than red, is it a respray or original do you know?

IIRC, all 272 "official" 288GTOs were rosso corsa - I think that yellow one was a test bed that doesn't count as part of the 272 (?). Or does it?

Imho, the 288GTO and the F40 are two Ferraris that absolutely, positively have to be rosso corsa. Saw a picture of a silver F40 - looked awful (to me). Michael Sheehan sold a 308/288 coversion that was black - didn't look right either.

the silver 288 gto is a repainted car.

the sheehan 308/288 conversion wasn't a conversion. it was the mel spilman car. a great amount of money was spent to make it very fast. many 288 gto features were incorporated into the car, but it was a racing car, although it was used on the street (i have its original "prova" texas license plate).

There was a silver 288 GTO in 1984, owned by a man called Sam Bardor.

He lived in Mexico with his wife Emma and both participated in private races.

Bardor collected only silver Ferrari's. I've got some pictures of his cars and

the attached photograph shows his 288 GTO. I do not know whether the car

was deliverd to him in silver, or that is was resprayed later.

He owned at least a Daytona coupe, 512BB, 328 GTB - all in silver.

So perhaps Sean F.'s pictures show the same car.

Was that picture taken at Bridgehampton? I remember seeing a few of his silver cars there. I remember the 288 and a Daytona. Still have the photos I think.

I also saw pictures of his three silver Ferrari's in a german magazin. Was the silver GTO the last of him in silver? F40?

Am I the only person who thinks the silver looks uninspiring in pictures? Maybe it's better in photos?

Hey Joe I agree with you dude. 288's and of course F40's should be red and only red.

Joe V.,

The following information is so little that it does not make sense to

me to start another thread.

The picture of the silver 288 GTO I posted was taken at an event,

origanized by Mexican driver Nicolas Zapata.

From my notes I can find that Michele Alboreto and Gerhard Berger were

among the guests. I've got 3 more pictures from that event:

1 - A silver 512 BB belonging to Bardor

2 - Sam and Emma Bardor in front of the (silver) 328

3 - Three silver Ferrari's of Bardor

Maybe the circuit can give a clue?

Regards,

Joop van der Meer
