Hi boys, Well, after a couple of months doing some research on 18" wheels on 308s, reading threads/posts and checking the different pictures of Chris Morses 308 with 360 wheels and Mark E with 550 wheels, i decided to get myself some nice 550 wheels. The wheels just got delivered today and do they look SWEEET! 2nd picture Mark E 3rd picture Chris M They look awesome guys. Hope you don't mine me posting them. Now the fun begins. Sweet momma! These look cool! What rims did you have on before? And what do the 18 inches do for handling? I was thinking of swapping my 15 inch rims for 16 inches. Might go one size up now.... Hans
Thanks Hans. I have the 390mm wheels too. On the handling the guys that installed 360 wheels say it had greatly improved the ride.
Very cool, Chris! Now, you have to get some photos up here when you finish with all these little projects you have going.
Chris, What tires are you going to install. The wheels really look like they are in excellent condition. Do you have to install spacers on the front or rear?? best, chris
this is a great, tasteful mod. i just wonder if it would be a good idea to first go thru the bushings and ball joints on an older car before doing this as the loading on the control arms must be very different with these wheels. they look great. post more pics asap!
I was thinking of going with the Goodyear F1 GS-D3. I still have to do some homework on size. Maybe Fronts 225/40/18 and Back 265/35/18?? I had called Daniel at Ricambi and he said the fronts i needed 20mm spacers and 80mm bolts and the back, after i narrow them down to 9.5, he said standard 360 52mm bolts will do with no spacers.
Is the offset on the 550 wheels the same as 360 wheels? If it is the 9.5" width without suspension work might rub, mine at 8.5" is very tight. If the offset is towards the outside; the tire and wheel may extend outside the fender, this is what happens with 360 wheels on convex wheeled 328's. Measure carefully. Good Luck http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=143166
Yep, i was going to do my bushings and ball joints, but that's the fall/winter project. And yes, there will be more pictures.
I had a chance to weigh a 355 front wheel and a 16 X 8 factory mag and the 355 went 18.2 lbs while the 308 mag16x8 went 12lbs. If you ever drove early cars with wires and then swapped to the mags you notice that the wires are slower to rev up and the wires let you keep momentum when you back off the gas making for decreased braking power. No way would I put on more rotational weight. I ditched the 390trx junk and goy a set of factory 16s and run mich pilotsmmx 225f -255r which is OE for TR, lot of grip, perfect fit.
I got some time to finally put them on the 308 and see how they look. I can't wait to get some tires for them. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Here is one option, (It is not on the ground yet ~85% complete). Those 355 wheels look good. Keep posting pics of the project. best, chris Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hey Chris, about what we talked about before... Bolts are 70mm with 45mm thread, so may be too short for what you need. Spacers are 20mm, but have a 76mm wide by 10mm tall lip that fits into the wheel - again, may not work for what you need. I suppose you could cut off the lip, but would probably not be worth the effort. Let me know. -matt Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Oh sooo sweet!! Chris, i...........hold on a second while i wipe the drool off.......... i can't wait to read about your "Big Brake Project"
I was writing it up when i took a brake to check, "what's up". Just sent the e brake brackets and front wheel adaptors to girodisc for anodizing, yesterday. To emulate one of my heros, birdman, here is a "teaser" of a new product: 360 to 308 parking brake adaptor- Material 6061 T-6. This was done on a cnc machine, so if your specs differ a little bit, changes are easy. "Help is on the way" sorry, couldn't resist a small beer induced moment of joy. hth, chris Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
