Went for a drive this morning with a local Stradale owner and heard what sounded like an exhaust leak. I pulled over and discovered that the driver side cut-off valve for the air injection system (PN# 147390) had melted. Before I replace it, does anyone know what would casue this item to melt? Could there be another problem that will melt the new one?

I thought I have seen every failure in a 348 but I have never seen that one.
my guess is the check valve just off the air injection rail is bad allowing exhaust gas to flow back and burn the cutoff valve thus burning it. If you have trouble fining those parts let me know I don't use my air injection rail stuff I'm racing. You can ditch that entire system and screw caps from the hardware store screw right on to the bosses on the head. I forget the size they are brass in the plumbing dept of hoe depot. In fact this is a quick fix capping them off if you want to drive but are waiting for parts.

I think you may be right FBB. I could feel exhaust pulses coming from the hose that connects to the injection rail. My system has two check valves. Not sure which one is acting up. I guess I have a project... :)

The check valves are expendable. I replace them at almost every major. They are a generic part and are very inexpensive. Remove one and take it to the local parts store. There are different nipple and thread sizes but all work the same.

    Replace all 4.

    Thanks Brian.

What about the plastic cut-off valve (melted part)? Is it generic also?

Not to my knowledge but get in touch with Danial at Ricambi. I don't recall them being very expensive.

    Cool....Danial is the man..

$76.50 for the cut-off valve. Not too bad in Ferrari terms... :)

    Follow up:

Visiting a good friend of mine before he passed away recently. Told him about my issue and he had the check valves sitting on the shelf. Borg-Warner is the brand and PN# CV8. Perfect fit. Also ordered the plastic valve from Daniel. Should be all back together soon.

That BWA #CV8 is the same part as the AC Delco 2332530 and Walker 15903 (about $7 each).

Feliciano, what year is your car? 1995? My hose routing to the bypass valve (1997) is different than yours.
