Holy crap what a serious piece of garbage software. My old laptop is on its last legs and I had to get a new computer. I bought a Thinkpad T60 (sweet computer) but it seems EVERYTHING in the stores comes with Vista. NOTHING I HAVE WORKS WITH IT.

I am a Realtor and ACT! 2006 does not work with it.There is no fix for this.
They will not be tested, upgraded, or supported for Windows Vista.
    http://www.act.com/vista2007/index.cfm

Adobe Acrobat 7 will not allow me to authorize and keeps claiming I need an administrative account and then shuts down. I am logged on as an admin.

Firefox 2 does not work right with Vista.
    http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/2.0.0.1/releasenotes/#vista

I cannot access certain pages on Internet Explorer because of some kind of security blocking feature (real estate specific).

I cannot imagine what else doesn't work. We're talking possibly THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS in software upgrades. BULLS--

I am so pissed I do not know what to do. I am about to take up smoking again. I hate Vista has been forced on me just because I wanted a new Thinkpad and couldn't wait.

I know T60s came with XP a few weeks back and I want to install XP on this machine. Does anyone have any idea how this can be accomplished? Lenovo says "don't do it" (I spoke with them).

Apparently there are drivers for everything...any suggestions?

Oh yeah and it's paranoid, too. Run ANYTHING and it dims the scrren and pops up a small window that asks for PERMISSION.

That Apple commercial is pretty dead on. I thought it was a joke, but it's pretty accurate. Take a look at this, it's true....

Not paying a 15% restock fee at Best Buy. Computer is fine, the OS is the problem.

    Sorry, I couldn't resist.

BS on the restocking fee. If you are dissatisfied with any Best Buy product, you should get full reimbursement no questions asked.

Oh don't worry I would raise holy hell with them. It's not really BB's fault this time. It's gdamn VISTA and its incompatabilities.

Not like I'm going to get an XP machine from there or anywhere else right now.

I bought an XP laptop about two weeks ago. I'm not having problems with Firefox. I had a few quirks with it but got them sorted out quickly.

My complaint is that I can not get a bit torrent client to work on it.

I really wish I knew how to get rid of that pop up for permission. I have not even taken the time to see if it can be disabled.

I've been using my 10 year old laptop with XP just so I can use bittorrent.

Best Buy had XP laptops when I bought mine two weeks ago. If you want one you may be able to get one cheap if they have them left. I wanted vista, just didn't know what I was in for.

People were like this when XP replaced 98. And people were REALLY pissed when 98 replaced 95. But just for the record, the 3.1 users were the most distraught and heartbroken over 95 becoming big poppa.

Soory you're having such a rough time with it. I really like XP, and I'm sure it would take me a month or so to get used to Vista.

However, IE7 grew on me in about 5 hours, so dunno.

Sounds like another reason to wait for at least SP1 before an upgrade.

I got the permission thing worked out:
    http://lifehacker.com/software/vista/windows-vista-tip--disable-annoying-need-your-permission-to-continue-prompts-230866.php

I also got Acrobat to work (even though they say it won't).

This machine will NOT recognize my computer in the other room. Won't show it in the network tab even though my old laptop is seeing them.

Still don't know what to do about the ACT! issue yet.

    Vista sucks.

Return it, tell Best Buy it's defective. They'll return it 100%.

Take your money and either get a IBM T60p or a MacbookPro.

I got the MBP and haven't looked back since. I run WinXP under Parallels for when I really need to.

I'm not a huge fan of Vista but I haven't had any issues with Firefox 2.0 or Acrobat 7. It looks like ACT! 2007 works with Vista with some caveats...maybe it's time to upgrade? I did have an issue with my router (Linksys) where I had to disable SPI (Stateful Packet Inspection) in order for Outlook or Firefox to actually download anything. Once I figured that out, it has worked as advertised.

I didn't know Vista is this bad. I think XP was like this when it first came out until Microsoft fixed those problems.

I'm gonna have to wait until they get it to work just fine.

Vista wireless networking works great with my BRAND NEW all in one Linksys router/modem at home. No security issues, fired right up.

not so good with my Wireless Access Point at work. took a major workaround (that I'm not happy with and won't discuss) to make the thing go there.

some issues with any software more than about 3 minutes old. and even some of the Vista patches from the software guys still produce incompatability warnings from VISTA.

And the thing is a MEMORY PIG.

And it tends to bitmap web graphics.

Other than that, I love it!!!! :D

I just upgraded from Win 2kPro to XP Pro a month ago. I'll likely wait until the next big MS OS comes out to upgrade to Vista. One thing I learned the hard way with my computer experience over the last 15 years is not to upgrade unless you absolutely have to, especially the OS or drivers. But I guess you don't have a choice if you're buying new with pre-installed software.
