Last month, the model club known as ACME (Atlanta Car Model Enthusiasts) hosted the 11th annual NNL Southern Nationals model car contest at its usual venue, the Smyrna Community Center in Smyrna, GA. Here's a sampling of what was on the table, including some of the Ferraris:

Porsche was a feature this year, and among them were some of the better-known non-Gulf 917s, and a trio of Le Mans-winning 936s. The Carrera GT in the last pic is one modeler's idea of a closed version; he used the roof from.....a Ferrari 360!

Wow very cool to see these models since I do my own car models when I have the time. I don't think i'll ever get to that level tho some of the detail on those is crazy.

I would like to get my hands on the 340 Mexico, the 512M Sunoco and the 312P. Very cool stuff!

Those mentioned aren't 1:43 are they?

They are 1/24th. It was a great show.

The 340 Mexico is an ABC kit. The 512 Sunoco and 312P are Fisher kits.

The last group includes some hot rods, dragsters, and "stock" cars. The first couple are particularly crazy, powered by 28-liter Allison V-12 aircraft engines!

The last pic is of a group build of all the Porsches from the first IROC in 1974, looking like so many German gumdrops!

In the old "capacity of a single-cylinder" numbering method, a Ferrari powered by an Allison-sized V-12 would be a Ferrari 2335. Talk about big pistons!!

Absolutely FANTASTIC models - just WOW!!! I grew up in Alpharetta...too bad I never knew of anything like this when I was living there; I could've started my "obsession" much sooner! ;)
