That video isn't that great. I suggest "Lap of the Gods" on DVD. Probably the best DVD of in-car action available. Lots of clips from the '70s and 80's F1. Here's a sample of one of the clips from that DVD, Nanini from Minardi: http://youtube.com/watch?v=k7J-3Q6eObU You can find it anywhere online.
Are you sure it's Lauda in 1977? That doesn't look like a Ferrari (no prancing horse on steering wheel, strange side mirrors, odd looking bodywork).
Definitely not a Ferrari powerplant, either..... Speaking of 'Lap of the Gods', has it been cut in a USA version yet ? I mean one in that the DVD encoding works on USA DVD players ? A year ago it was not, and I have not looked lately. Trivia: only one car has ever crashed with a LOTG camera rolling on it, and I am in the background of that crash... DINODAN - +1 - seems like yesterday.
Yes, LOTG is available on US and CAN DVD. I bought it last year, get with it man! It is an excellent DVD, great classic footage never to be found anywhere else. I believe you are talking about the Piquet crash in Detroit.
Yup. Me and a friend were walking towards turn 1-2 from turn 3, we obviously didn't think too much of it, he just smacked the wall probably 150 feet in front of us. I miss that race, it was a lot of fun back then, Detroit is a great town, regardless of what people say about it. Back in the car-building heyday of the late 60's it had to be a cool town to be affiliated with.
