Castlepines Autosport in CO has an '86 328 GTS that they're selling. Spoke to the sales guy who kept calling me bro and was kinda vague on a few things. II also hate it when a car is described as "primo cherry" :D

It's number 61551. Major service was done last yr but only cost $1200???

Just wondering if this car has been discussed before?

Also sort of interested, sales guy does NOT know Ferraris. I live in Colorado and I'm going to look at it tomorrow. He has a 348 but its not listed on the web so I'm looking at that tomorrow.

Sales guy seems a bit flaky. Red 86 328 is at least 4 owners and last owner is "dealer" but not the same guy as the guy thats selling it. NWest, then Cali, then NY then NC now Colorado listed on his copy of the Carfax.

The belts were "inspected" 2 years ago. I questioned "Inspected or replaced", his response was "No, inspected, they looked fine so he didn't replace them." Service was done at a "mom and pop" shop I've never heard of in C Springs.

PM me for details after tomorrow.

I'm not getting "warm and fuzzies" from my conversations with him.

Not that I am trying to sell you MY car or anything, but be careful---a car like that where you don't know who did the major and the salesguy doesn't know about the car---that is a car you have to inspect for yourself....

i questioned that as well but then found out that just the belt inspection was $1250 so thinking they may have been replaced at that priced rather than just looked at but just written down accordingly on whatever the salesman is reading from. however, it says nothing about the tensioner bearings.

he did mention that there are some loose screws on the bottom of the doors that rattle and indicated this happens on all 328s!?!?!???? nah. if i ask him anything else, he responds with, hey, bro - this thing is cherry" LOL

James shoot me an email once you're done up there. Evidently, it's the same guy who's selling the 328 and the 348 that you're looking at if that helps at all

Inspected the belts? You are like.... 20 minutes from changing them if you are looking at them. Holding a flashlight next to the pulley and looking at the belts doesn't count. By the way, how does one inspect the tensioner bearings, which are more prone to failure? That is crap man.

Almost every Ferrari looks great until you get it on a lift. That is when you learn a lot about the car. I'll bet a $1 that the salesperson (or anyone at the dealership for that matter) doesn't know what it looks like from underneath.

Two words...PPI from Ferrari of Denver. O.K. that is more than two...but the resources are available and nearby. Don't make a costly mistake. Spend the money and have the vehicle checked out by a reputable source.

It might seem costly up front...but will pay off huge on the backside.

Play hardball with the salesman and still see if he calls you "bro"....

Good luck....and please post your results.

Ok, so I went to see this car today, only spent maybe 30 mins at the dealer. Salesman is definately only sales, doesn't really know the cars, tried various "sales pitches". However, heres what I've found so far.

The car was purchased by this owner from Northwest Investments Inc (Oregon/Washington? They always have cars on Ebay). Cant remember, but I think it was purchased by this owner in 98.

    THE GOOD:
    1) While I didn't have a paint meter, it appears to be original paint or at least no body work (about 3-4 door dings and 1 unusual/weird small dent at drivers side fender/bumper).
    2) Carfax appears to be legit and mileage appears to be original (43K? didnt write it down)
    3) Dealer did agree to let me drive on Saturday
    4) Dealer did agree to let me get PPI via FODenver at my expense
    5) Price (36,999)

    THE BAD:
    1) No records, the only thing besides a few book stamps was the recent "belt inspection" which also indicates some sort of starting problem solved at the time, owners handwritten notes say "I know it's had the 30K belt service but I dont have the record"
    2) Broken headlight switch on stalk (came off in my hands)
    3) Very dirty overall, very dirty engine
    4) Needs tires
    5) Small amount of door sag on both doors
    6) Front hood "squeaks" when opening, rear seems ok

I'm going to drive it this saturday.

My overall impressions are that this is definately one of those cars that would be a "Daily Driver". It would take a lot to get this anywhere near show condition.

Cavieat: I'm not an expert, never owned an FCar and looking for my first.

I own 61553. So this car is a sister to mine. But I don't know anything about it.

As far as the screws on the bottom of the door, I'm assuming you mean the ones that hold the interior panels on the door. I had my door panels off to install Frazer's slow window fix. The screws fit precisely in their hole, if you don't get them in right they rattle. An easy fix.

Price seems goos for a driver with that mileage, especially if it is pristine paint.

Let us know how it goes.

I met a guy in Castle Rock last spring with a 328 who also has a black 348. Are these the cars? Can't remember the name but I think he was a mortgage broker. I saw the 328 on the road often. Maybe he just gave them to this dealer to sell. I'm sure they know nothing about Ferraris, so any buyer is on his own.
