Has anyone installed a HID/Xenon headlight set up on a F355. If so how was the performance, cost and what parts did you use to do the job please?
Be careful. Some of the HID lights draw too much current...whereas the best HID's pull about 30% less current than the stock headlights.
You might want to try these folks. They seem to have a very good upgrade kit. http://www.purexenon.net/servlet/the-Promax-HID-Kit-cln-5000k/Categories
Look at his profile, then look at the other questions he has asked. For example: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=117073
I did look, and I saw his other post this morning. Yes,he COULD be a poser, but it's also possible he's not, and just doesn't want to reveal a huge amount about himself. I say take him at face value, which is a Ferrari owner/enthusiast who just wants advice on upgrading his car. The forums are about F-car discussion, let's just discuss!
I only have one Ferrari and I know most of this stuff. He has had three and is asking these basic questions? Sounds like high school to me. But if I am wrong I will not be upset.
Hey no worries. I just don't want to run him off. We are all glassy eyed newbies at some point, posers or not.
Either way, who cares? These threads are meant to be filled with usable information...... Seems to me that this is a question that somebody could search for in the future.
Check out this Xenon thread: http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=72653&highlight=xenon+f355
Absolutely correct. I was not aware that Rob has assigned sub-moderators to prefilter questions! Many questions here that might have been thought to have been of little value have provided enormous results for everyone. Prequalifying a question has no value. I learned long ago to look to the source! I think the source of pre-qualification here might be out of order!
Dr Strangelove, I have just updated my profile and you will see that I have owned 2x F355's a 1998 six speed and a 1999 F1, both Berlinetta's and a 2003 360 Modena. I will be picking up a 1999 Yellow/Black F355 F1 spider this week...can't wait. In terms of being a "poseur" if you mean that I am a school boy who just reads Road and Track, then the anwer to that is no Sir... The questions that I asked I thought are all very reasonable... (1) HID set up on a F355...never done that, both F355's had standard lights and the 360 had HID from the factory (2) HyperFlow cats...never tried them (3) Tubi exhaust + Tubi AirFilters, always did them both together... I am sure you get a lot of bull****ters on the form, I am however not one of them... Nae wurries laddie...have a nice day...
True. And a TON lately have sucked up a lot of peoples time. Here is the Memo, it is about 162 pages long: http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=98761 And to Mr Mark, if you are legit then I am sorry, but if you view the link above you will see that we have as you say been bombarded by kids and posers all summer.
If you have owned a 355and a 360, how could you not know the answer for the following thread you started on 08/08/2006? <<Quote:>> "F355 Major service how often please? What is the time and mileage intervals for the F355 major engine our belt service please? <<End Quote>>
Dean & DrS - He's the real deal. Now, back to his question about HID's. (Peronslally, I'd love to find a good solution for my 348 too -- something that was more Xenon than "blue bulbs from eBay") -d
Daniel, Check the link I posted. I spoke with them about 6-8 months ago, and they seem to have a very credible upgrade. They indicated that a Ferrari dealer in Canada uses quite a few. I was looking to do the high beams in my 360, but decided to stay with the Hoen xenonmatch bulbs that I have used successfully on three other cars. I think may may have a credible answer to the upgrade scenario, however. Try them tomorrow.
Matt, That looks like a good source as well. What's interesting is that these HID's draw less current (35 watts) than the standard halogen bulbs (55 watts), and they are clreaner and brighter! My 530i has the bi-xenons and they are fantastic!
Thanks Greg. A little more info on HID can be found here. Kind of interesting is that the highest Kelvin output kits are not the brightest. See about a third of the way down this page under Kelvin Ratings. Pretty good info. http://www.h-i-d.co.uk/
