A friend of mine just got his F430 a week ago (silverstone grey of course...) and I finally got a chance to drive it. So we're cruising through down town L.A. and I'm truely enjoying it. Noticing all the attention, (although that's not the reason this car was bought, it sure is nice!) I decide to go a bit slower seeing as traffic was beginning to build up and let a couple people take pictures. (many people in downtown go as tourists with cameras and video). I make a slow left turn and a cop pulls me over and gives me a ticket for going slower than safe at current conditions!! His excuse was that we were causing traffic and created a potential hazardous environment!

What to do? I truely don't believe this ticket is fair

You need to scan the ticket and post it (black out any personal info). This has to be a very rare ticket for a Ferrari going too slow and deserves to be archived!

Well I think it is fair, considering the car you were driving. You have to remember everyone stops and looks, and the slower your driving the longer they're looking. This can lead to accidents and such. Plus in LA you have those idiots yapping on their phones not paying attention, and could either slam into you or someone behind you. How bad would it suck to get rammed by an Escalade soccer mom on the phone reading a book while drinking starbucks, and smoking a cig. I was in Panama City with a friend of mine in his mini-truck and he was ticketed for driving too slow. We made fun of him for a year after that...

On that note, that's gotta be one of the funniest things I've ever heard, driving too slow in a Ferrari. I'd love to see the ticket too...censored of course.

Can you post the CA vehicle code section he wrote on the citation?

You can always allege that the "slow down" lights came on!!!

Make a dozen copies and keep them in the car.

Next time you're pulled over for going too fast, show the cop the "too slow" ticket. :D

And practice your best "make up your mind!" exasperated look.
(If you have trouble with that look, ask any man's wife -- who has it down cold. :p)

I'm pretty sure that is a ticket that will be thrown out when you go to court (if that's how it works in CA). Either way, I definatly want to see the ticket too!!

No such thing unless you are on a highway. Another jealous d-head cop story. Easily won in a court of law.

I agree, the 'slow down' light excuse would be a first for the communist state judicial system.

The ticket is completely legit. You were impeding the flow of traffic-- probably more dangerous than speeding. While it may seem like a silly ticket, like it has been mentioned before, most people are expecting traffic to be moving at the designated speed and won't pay attention to abnormalities in the regular flow. When you're speeding, you only have to make sure you're paying attention, but when you're travelling slowly in heavy traffic, it suddenly becomes a much larger problem.

Anyway, you're in a Ferrari! Nail it!

I'd like to know what the speed limit was and the mph that you were going at? Usually tickets like that are for the freeway/highway (or what ever you call it in the state that your in) where you usually see the minimum speed limit sign at around 40MPH.

Hate to say it and I seem to be in the minority here but I'd say that's what you get for posing. Just as bad as people rubber-necking to see an accident on the other side of the road.

If you want to let people take pictures of the car take it to a show or make them run to the next stop light!!

Happened to me as well. Not in a ferrari. I fought it and won. As I remember... I told the judge The speed limit is...... the limit. I could not see how the traffic flow would allow my judgement to go any faster. He let me off.

A few years ago, I was leading a group 8 or 9 of Ferraris on the way to Palm Springs. We were in the left lane moving at about 80-85, then I noticed a Sherrif getting on the free way, so I slowed to the speed limit, 55, as did everyone behind me.

Then I noticed that he pulled up behind the last car in the line of Ferraris, and started to weave through the line of Ferrari's, almost like he was checking everyone out. So I slowed to about 50, just in case.

He came up behind me and pulled me over. He gave me a ticket for going slower than traffic, and lectured me that if I'm leading a long line of cars, I should move to the right lane so I wouldn't obstruct traffic. I couldn't tell him that we were going faster than traffic up until the time he got on the freeway. Needless to say, I was the butt of jokes the whole weekend when everyone found out what the ticket was for.

Sorry for your ticket, but I know how you feel.

The speed limit in downtown is 30mph and i was going 20mph before i made the left lane turn. But the weird part was that the ticket was given to me after i made the left turn and you can only turn so fast before you run into the side walk. This is why I felt i had to post this

"But Judge, there were all these idiots weaving in and out around me trying to take pictures with their cellphones. It was a horribly dangerous road condition, and I slowed appropriately to avoid the very real possibility that one of those jerks would crash into me, another vehicle or a pedestrian as he dialed his friends up to send the photos. I only wish officer do-good here had noticed the behavior of the other vehicles instead of staring at my Ferrari the whole time."

Technically, the requirement used to be "keep right except to pass".

Of course, that was back when it was illegal to pass on the right, too.

But as this would also prohibit running in formation to block the road, local governments don't enforce it anymore ...

... unless it's a cop you're in the way of.

Just remember: cops don't want you to speed, but they don't want you to keep them from speeding, either.
