I also saw that car and smelled something fishy about the price. Once again, if it seems too good to be true....it probably is. According to the listing, it is in Sacramento, CA Is this the item? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1,1&item=4652282792&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT Anyone else look into this car? I sent a message to the seller but never got a reply.
Scam Scamo Scaminski That is a picture of a car for sale in FL. It was taken off of Hemmings website.
My thoughts are....the Seller ID has been hi-jacked and the initial victim is the owner of the Ebay ID, with probably 70 valid transactions on his account - doesn't matter that he has 98% rating. The JIM MORA [[email protected]] email address was made to create a false impression on anyone inquiring about the car. Great that dstacy has identified the car from Hemmings. Buyer Beware!
Actually, this highlights why you need to be careful with you account and password. There are dozens of scam emails out there that arrive looking like they come from Ebay or Paypal. They are phishing for your id and password. You should never hit the link in one of those emails, even if it looks like it is taking you to Ebay or Paypal. Close the email, open another window, go directly from your browser to Ebay or Paypal, log in and if the email isn't there waiting for you, it's a fraud. I literally get dozens of those every day. When I see something that looks legit, I don't respond through the email. Instead, I go directly to Ebay or Paypal and check. When it is legit, it's there. Most of the time, it is not. You'd think after they've sent a billion of those emails they'd figure that people caught on. But I guess enough people do click on the links and provide the "in" that they want to the account, it's worth the scammers' efforts. And then they effectively own the account and off they go. I got stung a few weeks ago on Ebay by someone claiming to be selling a couple of Sparco racing seats. Fortunately, I got all my money back via Paypal and American Express.
I responded to him that I was close to Ontario and wanted to take a look a the car. No answer yet....
Another doofus fell for an eBay phishing scam and had his account hijacked. I get those emails all the time.. they crack me up.
I have also received those emails saying something along the lines of "your account with Paypal is overdue and you need to do something now" so you click the link and go to a site that you think is Paypal, but it's not. I did the same thing Fasterisbetter, I would go direct to the website and check my account, and sure enough, there was nothing past due, or owing. Just a big ol scam.
Never click on a link from the phishing e-mail. Good advise from above....log in to the ebay site and access your messages from within Ebay to be safe.
If you're ever unsure if it's a scam, the easiest way to tell is: Lacks your personal information, such as not being addressed by full name. Email is written in poor English with grammatical errors and spelling mistakes. If you pass your cursor over their link, look at what appears, It is ALWAYS a fraudulent site name.. Serg
I don't. But I'm just curious. What if you click on the site but don't answer anything. You just look at the page and then close it. Can that hurt you too? How exactly?
Correct me if I am wrong, but there might be a possibility of the hackers getting into your computer, activated by you clicking on the link.....paranoid perhaps?
I used to get some of those, so one day I decided to fill it out, my name was Puhlina Wanker (sound familiar?), my address was 123 F##k street, F**kville. They haven't bothered me since.
